The Rager - Royal Rumble 2011 Predictions

Image
Welcome my little Ragers to IBA's first Pay Per View prediction madness. I got together with fellow Awesomite, Joel, and made our predictions to the matches that WWE has listed on the card for tonight. Of course, WWE has been known in the past to throw in matches at the last minute especially when the card is so bare, much like this one. However, this might meen that more time will be allotted for the bigger 40 man version of the Royal Rumble match, which is more than fine by me. WWE Championship Match The Miz (c) vs. Randy Orton Dr. Chris - So I see Miz winning tonight by pulling some sort of hijinks and barely escaping that way someone else can win the championship at Elimination Chamber. I don't think Miz is ready for a Wrestlemania top card draw just yet but he's certainly getting there, maybe next year. However, I don't think WWE is ready to slow Miz down just yet. Winner - The Miz Joel - The Royal Rumble is also known as the start of the road to Wrestlemania

WTF?

I can't decide if this is super awesome or super terrifying. Perhaps if the Daleks weren't shouting their catch-phrase of genocide and abject subjugation in contrast to adorable children? I mean, do these Daleks even speak or was that just for dramatic effects? Because I would find genocidal shouting to be a bit disconcerting on my street and around small children. If there wasn't any sound it would be okay. I'd totally want that if I was a kid (who was familiar with Doctor Who). I do like the theme music they use in this commercial. It reminds me of the Craig Ferguson tribute. And you all know my ridiculous love for that.

Thunder Thunder Thunder Thundercats!

Image
Who loved Thundercats? I did as I'm sure you probably did. Its been forever since I last saw the Thundercats on some Saturday morning from long ago. I've been meaning forever, to go ahead and buy the DVDs to relive my childhood but I haven't found the time now. All I remember was watching that show, thinking how cool it was and that awesome intro theme song. That awesome awesome song. This awesome song Anyway there have long been floating rumors of a live action movie and while Transformers and other 80s cartoons have made a successful transition to the big screen (a financial one if not a critical one) No solid progress has ever been made on the Thundercats front. Maybe robot-turning-into-cars aliens sounds better in a Hollywood pitch than looks-just-like-people-but-very-clearly-has-some-sort-of-cat-DNA aliens does. But what this means it turns out is that Cartoon Network is picking up the property for a new Thundercats cartoon. Today revealed the first official picture fr

The Rager - Raw Thoughts 1/24/11

Image
Welcome to everybody's favorite weekly...erm....semi-weekly....ugh...very weakly random thoughts of WWE's Monday Night RAW. 1. I think its interesting that they chose to start off Raw with a Smackdown wrestler. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Edge seems less legit on Raw, it just doesn't fit. 2. Was it just me or did anybody else sense any sexual tension between Edge and the GM laptop? There was just the awkward moment when the email went off and Edge had his "crazy eyes." Which reminds me, I miss the automated voice for the laptop but I understand Michael Cole would lose a lot of his heat if he's not the "voice" of the GM. 3. Speaking of awkward moments, it was weird to see the Nexus face off against the newly formed Corre. The Corre seems to be trying to become the face version of the Nexus and something about it annoys me, they don't really have a reason to exist other than the fact that they're Nexus rejects. And I c

IT. IS. ALIVE!!! (Spoiler Alert)

Image
MAUL'S ALIVE! MAUL'S ALIVE! MAUL'S ALIVE! Hooooly crap! I just finished watching the last episode of Clone Wars and, canonically, Darth Maul is still alive! I have nooooo idea how. But I cannot tell you how freaking excited I am about this! I am even more excited about this than I was about the possibility of Ahsoka turning bad. Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy! I just need them to get to this storyline within this season! I wanna see me some Maul action! We got to see Savage be a badass and we got to see Dooku really show off his saber skills but nothing tops that last image of Maul's face in Mother Talzin's seeing orb. hoo! It gave me chills! In unrealted news, I watched a movie last night that I think you nerds would appreciate. It's called Ink . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/ It was released in '09. It's about dreams and the battle between those that make good dreams, the Storytellers, and nightmares, the Incubi. It is pretty low budget and the edi

Wonder Woman Lipstick Will Be Mine!

Image
You know who I love? Wonder Woman. You know what else I love? MAC cosmetics. You know what I'm stupidly excited about? MAC's upcoming line of Wonder Woman products. There's more info and plenty of pictures over at Hot Beauty Health . I'm hoping to pick up MAC's signature Russian Red lipstick in it's adorable red, blue, and gold packaging at the very least. My favorite name choice by far though, is that they saw fit to name one of the mascara's Themyscira. Awesome. I'm really glad to see this kind of thing be popular. MAC's done a couple of collaboration lines in the past, Barbie and Hello Kitty, but Wonder Woman is a nice change of pace and I hope it brings to light more girl comic book fans.

Sci-Fi Shows I like that stream on Netflix

I was going through Nexflix's sci-fi/fantasy television show streaming today and thought I'd go and write up a list of shows I like and have seen, that other people may like. That and it's kinda fun to try to condense a whole series into a few short words. I'm sure some will disagree with the brief descriptions I've made. If it helps most of these shows are more light-hearted than deep brooding dramas (with the exceptions of Angel , bits of Buffy , bits of Farscape , and season 3 of Torchwood ). List of Netflix streaming shows worth checking out: For the time-travel fan: Doctor Who For the Captain Jack Harkness/sexy fan: Torchwood For the military vs evil aliens fan: Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis For the escaped prisoners running from corrupt, intergalactic law, etc./puppet fan: Farscape For the supernatural girl-power and metaphor for life in the 90s fan: Buffy the Vampire Slayer For the supernatural moody vampire detective/Greek tragedy fan: Angel For the

Epic poetry

Something amazing just happened. At the house of Joel, John, and Sam, something so amazing it can not be described in simple prose happened. When something this life altering happens there is only one way to describe the event with any justice. And that is with Epic poetry. Based on The Sexless Innkeeper by Barney Stinson ‘Twas the night before Friday and the weather was cold It had snowed just this Tuesday A whole hell of a load. We were all stayed inside it was just after ten with the warmth of computers and ESPN But the night took a turn at that very late hour When without any warning we lost all our power Upset though we were and reasonably so We tried calling Duke just to let them know But try though we might We could not get through So we hung our heads What were we to do? When Chris called we told him Of what we had learned But he said he’d come over Not seeming concerned And when Chris arrived Just by his presence He got back our power Using just his essence And now we are her

Pokemon: The Frist Movie website

Image
A few weeks ago the internet was all a buzz about a website for the movie Space Jam. Made for the release of the film in 1996 the website hasn't been touched in all these years. Well there is another site with a similar story. This is the website for the first Pokemon movie. A few of the links have died since the site first went up over ten years ago. (for example, you can no longer pre-order the soundtrack) but it is still nice to take a look back at a time when we we just getting our first glimpse at the 151st Pokemon and wondering what kind of wonders this world might hold.

Ladies Nerd Shirts

Image
These are my nerd shirts! Or at least my well-fitting nerd shirts. I'm sure a lot of nerd girls have the same problems that I do finding shirts. And for girls, there are quite a few, but here are my main two: Lack of shirts. This actually varies quite a bit by genre. As you can see, I've not had any problem finding superhero or Star Wars shirts. You'll notice though, a distinct lack of other genres. Finding girls video game shirts, or shirts from other Sci-fi can be difficult. And also, you'll notice a distinctly girly flair to all of these. Two of them are pink, and the black Star Wars shirt has glitter. I personally like having a bit of generic girlyness to my apparel, but for girls that don't it makes the search that much harder. Fit. This drives me nuts. "Womens" shirts are very often just men's shirts that are smaller, shorter, and have shorter sleeves. This does little to nothing to flatter my figure and makes wearing jeans with them difficult,

A little of this, A little of that

Image
So, this entry is a long time in the making, mostly because I'm lazy, and partially because I had to wait for several things. But here we go. First off, the Clone Wars came back on this past Friday for the second half of this third season and I gotta tell you, it blew me away! They've gone into Asajj Ventress' backstory and are fleshing out here character. Anyone who knows me knows that I love that character! And now getting to see her in action for real makes me very happy. This latest episode explains her origins in a sequence of flashbacks and, amazingly (especially for this series), they stuck to the already established EU cannon! It was great! Next, this episode provided the most epic and longest lightsaber battles we've seen out of this show yet! There is one at the beginning with Obi-wan and Anakin fighting Ventress which is very reminiscent of the duel between Qui-gon and Obi-wan against my all time favorite Sith Lord, Darth Maul. Later on, there is another figh

Patrick Stewart

I've wanted to write a post about Patrick Stewart for a while now. But I've been putting it off since it always ends up a bit fan-girl. But I do adore the man very much. My first introduction to Patrick Stewart was as Professor Charles Xavier from the X-Men movies. I was aware of his past in Star Trek, but as a non-nerd at the time, it was just a passing knowledge. Perhaps it was because Professor X was such a dramatically-rich and likable character, but I really liked Patrick Stewart. The next two sequels diminished in quality, proving him to be a superb actor despite a poor script. But then came Star Trek. Though it has taken me far longer than it should to finally get into Star Trek: The Next Generation , I am finally among its fans. I began watching through periodic TV re-runs in the past few years, catching a few episodes here and there. And my appreciation for the man grew. Luckily Syfy and BBC America have been recently fond of marathons. But it wasn't unti

The Rager - Raw Thoughts 1/10/11

Image
Welcome to the return of everybody's review of the longest episodic blah blah blah blah, Monday Night Raw. My apologies for not posted for the previous couple Raws but...ok, I have no excuse, just sheer laziness, it happens. But anyways, I'm back and the lights are on bright and everyone is excited about the return of John Cena! Lets get started: 1. Thanks to CM Punk, Nexus is now a cult, its like everything awesome about the Nexus is now joined with everything that was creepy about Punk's Straight Edge Society. Everything from McGillicutty ceremoniously being carried away after taking a beating, the awkward lashing of Husky Harris and then the "ultimate sacrifice" by CM Punk which went way too far for me and it made no sense to me why WWE wrote such a thing in a story. For a company thats hypersensitive about staying clear of their own screw-ups (i.e. the erasing of Chris Benoit from WWE history), it seems really irresponsible for them to pull this in light of

Women in "The Social Network": An attempt to rationalize

Image
In celebration of the DVD release of The Social Network , I thought I would discuss the accusations leveled against screenwriter Aaron Sorkin about the negative portrayal of women in his film about the invention of the social networking phenomenon Facebook. Somewhat lost in the midst of the overwhelming positive response to the film as a whole were claims that female characters, such as they were, were little more than dressed-up floozies looking to have sex with a star. This is not an uncommon female stereotype so it is understandable that those concerned with women's rights would take notice. Where these arguments are flawed, and I would say severely so, is that The Social Network is not a piece of fiction completely dreamed up by a male screenwriter. Rather, these are real people who's lack of attention from women in high school generated a deep resentment towards the gender that so glibly rejected them. But mixed in with that hatred of women is the desire to have what wa

Muse = Space Rock Gods?

Image
As its no secret to my fellow Awesomites, I'm probably the biggest Muse fanatic arguably on the east coast if not the US. I'm not saying that to brag as my love for them has probably reached unhealthy levels and this may or may not be a call for help. Anyways, I came across this bit of news featuring the band and my brain almost exploded from the possibilities. In an interview with UK's The Sun, Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy expressed interest in one day playing a gig in space and is even considering approaching billionaire Richard Branson to facilitate the "mission." My nerd side is just giddy at the idea of any band playing a gig in space (although the question of "How" keeps popping up) and add the fact that its one of the most exciting and innovative bands of our current generation (as well as my personal favorite, not sure if I've mentioned that) and we have the possibility of something epically awesome on various levels. I know the realistic ch

Here Some of Us Go Again...

Well...those of us still in college are gearing up for a new semester. T-3 days until homework and reading and class discussions and papers and tests. We're buying books and returning books and realizing we ordered two copies of one and no copies of another. Or at least that's what I'm doing. I'm breaking out the post-its and returning to life among the dorm. I'm already taping things to the side of my dresser. I'm hoping for an Awesome semester. I'm hoping for a few rest-of-my-life epiphanies. I'm hoping that Michele Foucault becomes easier to understand as I read my first homework of the semester. Most of what I'm studying had little to do with nerdy pursuits but that won't stop me. I've got a few ideas in the work. The next four months are going to be interesting. Who knows what awesome, irrelevant, nerdy things will happen.

Being A Nerd in 2010

Like everybody else in the world, we love talking this time of the year to look back on the past 365 days and sort everything into lists. Best of Lists, worst of Lists, and remember that time lists. This is one of those lists. Without further adue these are best moments of 2010 to be a nerd as deemed by the Awesome-ites. Avengers Assemble: I will eternally be jealous of those who got to see live the first time the cast of the upcoming Avengers stood together on the same stage. Like most of the world I viewed footage on the internet to see the first time the cast of superheroes and for the first time see the movie I never thought could happen start to take place. And to top it off. Joss Wheaton came out confirming that he would indeed be directing saying “I have had this dream all my life and it was not this good.” It’s how we all feel Joss. Celebration V: I didn’t get to see the Avengers live but there was no way I would be missing Celebration this year as well. In honor of the 30th a
