An Open Letter to Disney (About Their Streaming Service)

Image
Dear Disney, So you’re going to make a streaming service too? You’re going to make the Disney version of Netflix? You’re going to want me to pay somewhere between $5 and $15 a month for another streaming service to add to my monthly payments to Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime, Starz, WWE, Amazon, DC Universe, and whatever other monthly subscriptions I might be paying for? (Lootbox, Playstation or Xbox Live, maybe Sling, possibly MoviePass for those still hanging on to that, and who knows what else.) Yeah, let’s face it, there’s a good chance I’m going to be getting this one as well, or at least trying it out. But Disney, may I call you Disney? Let’s talk for a moment, really, about this streaming service you’re proposing. You know Disney, you already has a streaming service. It’s called Hulu. Hulu is owned by a joint venture between Disney (30%), 20th Century Fox (30%), NBCUniversal(30%), and Warner Media (10%). Assuming that everything goes as planned with Disney buying up 20th

You're the Worst 4.12: "Like People"

Chris:  I believe Alexa said it earlier in the season, we want Jimmy to end up back with Gretchen but we want him to earn it. Like People is what it looks like when they get back together momentarily without Jimmy earning it, had he earned it then maybe he wouldn’t have been so angry that Gretchen had a meltdown when she woke up and he wasn’t there. And good for Lindsay for stepping in and helping even when it’s not an easy thing to help with which is a huge sign that she’s progressing and it set things in motion for Boone to do something. Now, Boone is really just asking Gretchen to move in out of desperation from what Lindsay told him but it forces Gretchen to take a long look at exactly what she wants right now. Jimmy is starting to realize the damage he caused to the fullest extent and it’s hitting him how his usual activities are so much worse without Gretchen but accepts that she’s seemingly moved up and not caring about what he does. All of that is until Gretchen sets his c

You're the Worst 4.11: "From the Beginning, I Was Screwed"

Chris:  Jimmy has spent the majority of this season trying to prove something to the people around him but mostly to himself. It’s been pointed out in almost every episode that Jimmy fancies himself a sophisticated writer and is trying to portray himself as above erotica even though he wrote an erotica novel and apparently has a real talent for it. So in this episode, when Jimmy fails to elevate himself on the show, he relies on Gretchen because she’s the one person that doesn’t care that he writes erotica, judge him for it or challenges him whenever he claims that other people weren’t on his level. Gretchen is an easy fit for Jimmy and vice versa because Jimmy probably would’ve loved her French presentation. I hate Max almost since his first scene at the beginning of the season, everything about him and his character annoys me. However, Edgar does unload his entire military experience in one moment which triggers Edgar’s fear of being seen as only a damaged vet and that causing s

You're the Worst 4.10: "Dad-Not-Dad"

Chris:  While this isn’t technically a Sunday Funday episode, this is pretty close and while most Sunday Fundays are spent with Jimmy acting like he’s too sophisticated and above all of that foolery, Dad-Not-Dad is spent showing that outside of his usual group, Jimmy isn’t the sophisticated superior being. Jimmy is the guy that is brought along that doesn’t fit into the existing group dynamic and overcompensates. The hunt to find the person responsible for messing them up has led to Becca and Lindsay actually getting along and it’s a welcomed change of pace. Ultimately, both sisters are going to have to recognize for themselves what everyone else seems to be pointing out, they are responsible for their own happiness/misery. Becca’s fallback is always that she and her daughter are both screwed because of her being with Vernon, when it was her decision to marry him and not Jimmy (not that’s a better option, but she did have options) and divorce is always an option even with a kid.

You're the Worst 4.9: "Worldstar!"

Chris:  This episode is yet another one that forces me to reevaluate my list of who is actually the worst in this show. Lindsay’s mom is making a strong case because she’s responsible for creating #1 and #3 on my list (Paul is #2 since he’s a men’s rights activist now). Speaking of the list,  I think I’m moving Max up to #4 mostly because of that horrible moustache and saying stuff like “dropping some ropes” and whatever that reaction was to mac and cheese. For once, Jimmy isn’t living in delusion when believing he might have a chance again with Gretchen after the all night call. The delivery guy stuff with Edgar got pretty dark and at first it made me dislike Edgar for a split second. However, delivery guy kind of had it coming for the simple fact that Edgar worked pretty hard to ensure that being a “damaged vet” isn’t something that defines him or lets it hold him back. Here’s a guy that only knew Edgar for this one thing and once he saw Edgar is no longer that thing, he let his

You're the Worst 4.8: "A Bunch of Hornballs"

Chris:  I want to say that Paul gained some more ground on becoming the worst person on the show but the fact that we got constant reminders of Becca’s existence and her bitchy new makeout friend, I have the say that the standings remain about the same. Now, I’m not excusing Paul’s behavior with what he said or the fact that he literally barked at Lindsay but it is kind of revisionist history for Lindsay to be throwing this party and claiming that Paul was a bad man. Sure, he was a boring man with nothing in common with Lindsay but he was an alright, dependable dude until Lindsay started banging other dudes in front of him and, oh yeah, stabbing him. I didn’t realize how badly I missed watching Jimmy and Gretchen simply talk to each other, simply talking about their day and not arguing over everything. It had been a few episodes since they even spoke so that moment got me all warm and fuzzy even though Gretchen literally just voiced her feelings for Boone. It’s no coincidence Gre
