I Love Being a Nerd

So I was just wandering around Wal-Mart, as I have a tendency to do, when I see an older woman (in her 60'sish) having a confused staring contest with a display near the toy section on which were several toy lighsabers and blasters. I was naturally gazing longingly at the Boba Fett EE-3 carbine rifle when she breaks her eyes from the stand and looks at me, a Darth Vader saber in one hand and an Obi Wan in the other. "Do you know anything about this?" she asked me with exasperation in her voice. I couldn't help but break into a wide grin."Yes, I do. I know quite a bit about them, actually," I replied. "I could tell you how a lightsaber is built and how it functions, if you like," I thought to myself. She explained that her family lived in another state and they were therefor having an early Christmas. She had a printed out email from presumably her son or daughter describing what their kids wanted for Early Christmas. She was looking specifically fo

The Idiocy Strikes Back

I know it's been a while since I posted anything out here, but I feel this needs posting. It is season premier season in the television world and that means two things to me: the return of How I Met Your Mother and the continuation of the Clone Wars. While the former was amazing and everything I could have hoped for, the latter was a bit disappointing. This is so for several reasons and I shall spell them out for you now. This new season is kicked off showing the civil war going on on the planet Mon Calamari. Or Dac. Or whatever name they want to make canon right now. This is a side war going on during the Clone War between the Mon Calamari (fish-people like Admiral Ackbar) and the Quarren (squid-people) as they battled for dominance of their homeworld. It was depicted in the Genndy Tartakovsky animated Clone Wars series in grand fashion. Jedi Master Kit Fisto swoops in with a battalion of clones and helps repel the Quarren assault. It was really well done and played well with th

Why I am keeping my Netflix account

Quite a lot has been said about the fact that Netflix prices have gone up. And for the most part, what has been said has been negative. And that’s understandable. For the most popular type of account (1 DVD at a time and unlimited streaming) the monthly price of Netflix has nearly doubled. So it is understandable why some people are deciding that this is the time to drop Netflix from their monthly expenses. Me, I decided to hang on to my account, at least for the time being. For one thing having a large account (3 DVDs at a time and unlimited streaming) meant that my account only rose by 20% instead of the staggering blow of 50%. For another, the amount of time I spend watching Netflix still means the inflated price is a good deal (I probably spend less than a dollar per movie I watch) and it’s still the cheapest way to watch newer DVDs. Then the Starz news hit. Starting in February, the contract between Starz and Netflix would expire meaning that all of Starz content would no longer b
