My New Project!

Image
So by now you know that I am a huge Star Wars nerd/geek/fanatic. Well, I have finally decided to take the next step in the relationship. I am joining the Mandalorian Mercs. Don't know who they are? check this out: http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php In order to be an official member, I have to have my own set of beskar'gam (that's Mandalorian armor). I have always wanted my own armor but was afraid for years that it would require me to learn the time consuming and expensive art of vac forming. After doing some browsing through the tips and tricks section of the Merc's forums I found a tutorial showing how to make beskar'gam out of plastic storage totes! I ran outside and, to my supreme joy, there were two sitting in our storage room, completely empty. I snatched them up, printed out templates and got to cutting! So here are some shots of the progress so far. These are the first pieces cut out of green paper Here are the templates transfered onto one of the bu...

Long Overdue Oscar Report

Image
The Academy Awards happened a full half week ago and no one has yet to jump on this juicy bit of nerdy exciting news! I am disappointed, friends. That is okay, though. (Especially considering that two of our very own Awesomites have found themselves with REAL blogging jobs! more on that in a minute) It just means that it falls to me! Bwahahahaha! Anywho, let's get a-crackin! Let's start with the categories I know nothing about and care even less about: the documentaries. Now I am sure the winners were deep and meaningful and were able to capture the situations and subjects with the most critical of eyes. But let's be honest. Raise your hand if you saw any of them. So congratulations Inside Job and Strangers No More . Whatever you were about. In related news, the foreign language film category is one I know very little about. Here again, I am sure that the award is justly deserved. I just don't know on what grounds... Bravo, In a Better World . Next are the short fil...

IT. IS. ALIVE!!! (Spoiler Alert)

MAUL'S ALIVE! MAUL'S ALIVE! MAUL'S ALIVE! Hooooly crap! I just finished watching the last episode of Clone Wars and, canonically, Darth Maul is still alive! I have nooooo idea how. But I cannot tell you how freaking excited I am about this! I am even more excited about this than I was about the possibility of Ahsoka turning bad. Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy! I just need them to get to this storyline within this season! I wanna see me some Maul action! We got to see Savage be a badass and we got to see Dooku really show off his saber skills but nothing tops that last image of Maul's face in Mother Talzin's seeing orb. hoo! It gave me chills! In unrealted news, I watched a movie last night that I think you nerds would appreciate. It's called Ink . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/ It was released in '09. It's about dreams and the battle between those that make good dreams, the Storytellers, and nightmares, the Incubi. It is pretty low budget and the edi...

A little of this, A little of that

So, this entry is a long time in the making, mostly because I'm lazy, and partially because I had to wait for several things. But here we go. First off, the Clone Wars came back on this past Friday for the second half of this third season and I gotta tell you, it blew me away! They've gone into Asajj Ventress' backstory and are fleshing out here character. Anyone who knows me knows that I love that character! And now getting to see her in action for real makes me very happy. This latest episode explains her origins in a sequence of flashbacks and, amazingly (especially for this series), they stuck to the already established EU cannon! It was great! Next, this episode provided the most epic and longest lightsaber battles we've seen out of this show yet! There is one at the beginning with Obi-wan and Anakin fighting Ventress which is very reminiscent of the duel between Qui-gon and Obi-wan against my all time favorite Sith Lord, Darth Maul. Later on, there is another figh...

Totally rocked my socks!

So I just got back from seeing TRON: Legacy with my little sister and let me tell you, it was AWESOME! I've heard about people whining that they spent way too much time with the effects and graphics and didn't put enough into the story. To those people, I would like to say this: Have you even seen the first Tron movie? This new film has 100% more storyline. And it was executed well. Yes, the graphics are brilliant and beautiful and I wish I lived on the Grid, but at least they gave this story some umph. Not gonna lie, I had a bit of a spaz moment when Daft Punk showed up. They were just chillin. It was fantastic. The good: Quorra is hott. And apparently, my lil sis thinks Sam is as well. I want a light cycle. And the action is amped up to the maximum. Kung-fu mixed with breakdancing infused with techno party rave. Also, there are some really awesome direct lines from the first movie that you would only pick up on if you've seen it. Brilliance. The bad: This movie, much lik...

New Beginnings and Old Endings

Image
I, Jason, would like to officially congratulate my fellow Awesomites and now UNCG Alumni (that sounds really weird...) for their epic graduation this morning. I know I talked to all three of you at the thing but I wanted to let the world know how truly awesome we are. For those that do not know, Megan, John, Chris, and myself all participated and were honored in UNCG Graduation Commencement ceremony this morning. We are now officially out of college with our Bachelors degrees and heading off on the road to big-kidhood. As terrifying as that may be... Anyways, congrats guys!

News From the Front!

Image
Just so you all know, I don't have time to watch "Clone Wars" on tv when the episodes air, and the Star Wars website doesn't post them until a week afterwards so I am perpetually a week behind. It is unfortunate but necessary... Anyways, this past weeks's episode was another Senate episode. While this particular story arc is fascinating in showing the politics behind the war (something nerds like us can appreciate), these episodes with now clones and no Jedi get a bit redundant. Also, this whole jumping around the timeline thing would be confusing if I were just watching the show on television. The one that aired last week (this most recent one) takes place mere days before the episode in the middle of last season where Padme's Rodian Senator friend, Onaconda Farr, is poisoned. I can catch the time jumps because I'm following them with the episode guides (Which can be found here http://starwars.com/archives/index.html?k=t_6a21c8ec-f2fc-406a-aa97-2dd5ae9fd...

Greetings, minions

So this is what blogging is like, huh? I've not done anything like this since the days of xanga... Anyone remember the good ol' days? Anywho, I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Waffle. Or Jason. Or Kiubez or Durgen. It really depends. My posts here will consist of ranting about Star Wars, D&D, video games, Star Wars, zombies, and occasionally Star Wars. Speaking of Star Wars, are you caught up on Clone Wars? If not, you should! These last few episodes have been... interesting. The introduction of Sy Snootles a couple weeks ago was strange. I don't know why they had her speak in basic... That was one of the bits that pissed me off. That and her relationship with Zero?? What was that? She already has a backstory, thank you very much. Last week's episode was a little better. The action was a little sparse but Ahsoka's new outfit more than made up for it. She looks like more of a respectable character and less of a skank. She's still annoying but it...
