New Beginnings and Old Endings

I, Jason, would like to officially congratulate my fellow Awesomites and now UNCG Alumni (that sounds really weird...) for their epic graduation this morning. I know I talked to all three of you at the thing but I wanted to let the world know how truly awesome we are.
For those that do not know, Megan, John, Chris, and myself all participated and were honored in UNCG Graduation Commencement ceremony this morning. We are now officially out of college with our Bachelors degrees and heading off on the road to big-kidhood. As terrifying as that may be...

Anyways, congrats guys!

What with all the talk about the Oscar nominations getting announced today, one particular nomination has been overlooked. Namely the fact that even though the ENTIRE soundtrack was overlooked by the Golden Globes the Oscars at least did right by the best bunch of original songs this year and nominated Man or Muppet as on of the contenders for Best Original Song. Sure my pick would have been for Life's a Happy Song, but that's not what's important. What is important is that The Muppets got an Oscar Nomination! YAAAAAAAAAY

Day 5 of Halloween - The Fly (1958)

Jason:  First of all, I hope that everyone watched the right iteration of this film. The one with Vincent Price, not Jeff Goldblum.  Now that we’ve gotten that straight… This movie is considered to be a Halloween cult classic. It doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of scares or terror but it still remains a seasonal favorite. For the time, the make-up effects were decent. The way Andre’s fly head twitches and vibrates makes it look pretty convincing for a 1950’s puppet mask. The story, however, is what is so captivating. I have been reading a lot of Lovecraft stories lately and I couldn’t help but draw a comparison between them and this movie. The plot is very Lovecraftian. Let me explain: The main character is a highly intellectual recluse who spends most of his time in research. He stumbles across some natural secret that ultimately leads to his destruction.   It’s been nine years since the last time we’ve heard the famous “XOXO” sign off from Kristen Bell’s voice. Nine years since the high school soap opera full of lying, cheating, rumor filled friends to enemies and enemies to lovers saga has been seen. So it’s time to crank up the reboot machine and bring back Gossip Girl. What does a new Gossip Girl mean in the year 2021? How have things changed? How have they stayed the same? And does the arrival of a new generation of a show that feels as recent as Gossip Girl make anyone else feel this old?  This new version of Gossip Girl takes place in the same continuity as the first one, nine years after the ending of the last series.
