Irrelevant But Awesome

There is a movie out there called Recount. There's a good chance that you haven't seen it. I don't know a whole lot of people who have. It wasn't a theatrically released film but rather a TV movie that aired on HBO back in 2008. So it's understandable if you don't know what I'm talking about. Understandable, yes, but it's a real problem if you haven't seen it. Because it's one of the most impressive movies that you've never seen. The movie presents a behind the scenes look at the 2000 election and the days following it where none of us knew who our next president was going to be. Almost none of the movie focused on the candidates themselves but instead centered around the managers of their campaigns as they both worked to figure out a way to get their preferred candidate to the White House. Ten years ago I went to the movies to watch Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Not having read the books at that point, I had no real special interest in seeing the movie other than my Dad wanted to watch it and I just really liked going to the movies. What followed were three of the most impressive hours that I had ever spent in a Cinema. The opening part of a trilogy that would span over the next couple of years and would help to define what it meant to be a modern epic. So it is fitting somewhat that now a decade later, almost to the day, we get our first glimpse at The Hobbit, the triumphant return to Middle Earth for Peter Jackson and company to tell the story of Bilbo, Gandalf, and the discovery of the one ring. Today Warner Bros. relesased the trailer for what is arguably the most anticipated movie of 2012. We'll talk about what goes on in the trailer in a moment but first, let the wonder of The Dark Knight Rises wash over you. Well that was wonderful wasn't it? First we get a good look at Bane in motion for the first time. Some of the biggest internet complaints about the trailer is how Bane's voice sounds in this movie. Sure it's a bit odd but its not impossible to understand. And this is the world where Batman has a super gravely voice remember? So I've no problems with the voice yet. What I do like about this Bane is that he seems to be a very intimidating, competent version of the character, not at all like the disaster we got back in 1997. This is a Bane that I can believe going toe to toe with Batman. In this show we can clearly see some pictures of Harvey Dent in the background though we've been told that he did in fact die at the end of the last movie. So perh...

But we can’t forget Television shows. Along with the films nominated for Golden Globes today we got a slew of TV that’s been nominated as well. Now these I’ve seen a lot more of. The Golden Globe Nominations have been released wich means that Award Season is about to kick off into high gear. It also reminds me how woefully behind I am on watching movies this year. I have seen a mere fraction of the movies listed below Partially that’s not my fault because many of these movies have yet to be released or are only playing in selected cities right now. But the fact of the matter still stands. I’m going to have to take a lot of trips to the theater between now and Globe time. Anyways, here are your nominations. So I love movie versions of Broadway Musicals. As someone who doesn't have the money to constantly take many trips to New York to watch those musicals over and over and over again, the next best thing is geting a movie version. So whenever I get wind of a Musical being adapted into a movie, I'm always supportive, even if some creative liberties are going to be taken. Sometimes A movie adaptation gets the bulk of the Broadway cast to be in the movie (Rent and The Producers) while sometimes A whole new slew of famous people are cast to help the movie's chances with some star power (Hairspray and Mamma Mia!) It doesn't take much of the trailer to guess where on that scale Rock of Ages seems to be in. I would love a chance to see the original cast do the show, even just a filmed copy of the actual show one night (we don't get nearly enough of those) but I can understand why those big names need to be there. Man it sure has been a big day for trailers. Not only did we have the MIB 3 trailer earlier in the day, now we've got a GI Joe trailer out as well. Check it out below. So I knew the Rock was going to be a big part of the movie, after all he's arguably the biggest name attached to the thing, but it seems that hes going to be unquestionably the main character of the thing this time around. I think saw Duke for a second in there but not near what I saw of Roadblock. Also did this plot remind anyone else of the set up for the new Mission Impossible movie. Which is really the premise for the A-Team show from way back when. But it's the same plot with Snake Eyes, so I'm more or less content with that. What I would have really liked though is some sort of indication that we might get some more of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this movie but I guess somebody was too busy being in the most anticipated Batman movie of all time.
