The Creators of Recount Have a New Election to Talk About

There is a movie out there called Recount. There's a good chance that you haven't seen it. I don't know a whole lot of people who have. It wasn't a theatrically released film but rather a TV movie that aired on HBO back in 2008. So it's understandable if you don't know what I'm talking about. Understandable, yes, but it's a real problem if you haven't seen it. Because it's one of the most impressive movies that you've never seen.

The movie presents a behind the scenes look at the 2000 election and the days following it where none of us knew who our next president was going to be. Almost none of the movie focused on the candidates themselves but instead centered around the managers of their campaigns as they both worked to figure out a way to get their preferred candidate to the White House. It's a great subject for a movie (and a bit of political theater that many of us remember playing out in real time back in 2000) and is as compelling and gripping as any fictional political thriller out there. Even knowing the ending of the movie the movie is full of great characters and moments where you almost question what the outcome will be.

Go ahead and get this one on your Netflix Queue. Or go ahead and blind buy the DVD. It's one worth watching multiple times.

Buy why bring up Recount now? Because of this trailer.

The same team is taking on the events of the most interesting Presidential election of the past decade (now that the events of Recount are more than ten years old)
Will the movie suffer because of its apparent focus on Sarah Palin? That wouldn't surprise me. And that would be a shame because more than likely director Jay Roach (who actually directed the Austin Powers movies) and writer Danny Strong (who you probably know as the nerdy kid Jonathan from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) have already made one political thriller that managed to be immensely entertaining without being preachy one way or the other, so there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to do it twice.

There are a lot of movies competing for most anticipated theatrical release next year (Hobbit, Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers) but this is the clear winner for my most anticipated TV movie.
