Irrelevant But Awesome

We have had a whole slew of conventions to cover this summer. There's always the big one with Comic-con in July, but with us just a few months away from Star Wars VII, Celebration earlier this year was a pretty big deal of a convention as well this year. But we're not done yet. This week is Disney's D23 Expo, which in the past few years has become the place for some of Disney's big announcements (much in the same way that other studios have used Comic-con). Add to that fact that Disney not only has all of the Disney franchises, but also Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, there's quite a lot that Disney could be talking about over the next few days. But first we have a quick sneak peek of some upcoming Pixar Movies. Joel:  Eh. I can’t say that I’m sorry I saw this movie, or that I regret seeing it. I’m not mad at the movie for existing, like I have been with other movies this summer. But I probably won’t ever go out of my way to see it again. I won’t be recommending it to any of my friends and if I come across it while flipping through channels in the future, I’ll probably keep right on flipping. It’s feels like the movie starts off trying to be a modern film noir movie, but doesn’t really have any ideas about the genre except that there’s a ton of narration from the main character. It also seemed to rely far too heavily on the idea that sometimes weird things are funny, but forgot that sometimes weird things are just weird. Far too often the movie stopped to let you take in how strange someone or something was, but didn’t really have anything to add it it. Joel:  As a fairly die hard Carolina fan, I had to consciously remind myself at points that this is a review about the movie itself, not the subjects covered in this documentary. Because I have some strong opinions on why you should hate Duke, but again, not the point of the review. I don’t think this is as strong of a movie as the 30 for 30 installment we watched earlier in the summer, but I think part of that is just the topic covered. The story isn’t as heart wrenching or as emotional as Once Brothers , but not all stories can be. The near universal hatred of Duke is an interesting thing, especially with it cropping up so recently in comparison to the history of the sport. And Christian Laettner is a great starting point to really dive into that era of Duke Basketball, but it feels like there’s so much more to be said. Editor's Note: As some of you may have noticed, today's Summer of Netflix movie was suppose to be The Birdcage but, unbeknownst to us, that movie was scheduled to be no longer on Netflix before this week. You can understand my panic when I go to find that movie and come up with nothing on Netflix. That being said, we at IBA scrambled to find a good replacement and went with Hook. Quentin Tarantino is back with his latest film that has a lot of people excited because, honestly, it has a certain feel to it that reminds me of Reservoir Dogs as it bottlenecks a group of people together to create conflict much like RD did. There's a reason they're all connected in a way but that reason will remain a mystery until the film comes out this Christmas. The film includes a cast of Tarantino favorites and will sure quench the dialogue and violence thirst of any Tarantino Fan But enough talking, here's a look at the first full trailer for The Hateful Eight

Today, Entertainment Weekly released photos from Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as a little more information on one of the villains of the new movie played by Adam Driver, Kylo Ren. One of the images that started the giant debate over whether or not people like Kylo Ren's lightsaber. One theory has been proven right about it but more on that below the photos. Domhnall Gleeson's character General Hux. This same image was shown back at Comic-Con but was never officially released until now. Also, as spoiled by Gleeson at Comic-Con, Hux is the leader at the Starkiller Base and is confirmed to be a villain (because he's British). Finn and Rey running from stormtroopers, possibly on Jakku.  Is the mystery person riding a giant animal? A giant droid? Both? Joel:   I think I had the disadvantage of not seeing this movie until it was already touted as a fantastic film. By the time I actually got around to seeing this movie, It had already won several awards and I was constantly told by everyone how good it is anytime the movie was brought up. It’s hard for any movie to live up to that and while I can see what made Good Will Hunting a good movie, it ended up being not all that enjoyable for me. I think that’s on me and not the movie. I feel like if I had gone into the movie not expecting it to be so great I would have enjoyed it a good deal. The script is tight with great characters. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, and the rest of the cast all do fantastic jobs with their characters. It’s emotional, warm and heartfelt, but I guess I just wasn’t feeling that at the time.
