New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Photos & Kylo Ren Details

Today, Entertainment Weekly released photos from Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as a little more information on one of the villains of the new movie played by Adam Driver, Kylo Ren.

One of the images that started the giant debate over whether or not people like Kylo Ren's lightsaber. One theory has been proven right about it but more on that below the photos.

Domhnall Gleeson's character General Hux. This same image was shown back at Comic-Con but was never officially released until now. Also, as spoiled by Gleeson at Comic-Con, Hux is the leader at the Starkiller Base and is confirmed to be a villain (because he's British).

Finn and Rey running from stormtroopers, possibly on Jakku.

Is the mystery person riding a giant animal? A giant droid? Both? Also, is Rey capturing BB-8 or is that just the best way to transform the rolling droid that's captured the awe of Star Wars fans already.

Finn is still dressed as a stormtrooper as he is at the beginning of the first teaser trailer when he appears panicked and running from someone. Was the person he's running from the one that crashed this tie fighter?

Daisy Ridley discussing things with the fearless leader of Force Awakens, JJ Abrams.

Kylo Ren flanked by a trio of stormtroopers.

Captain Phasma and was mentioned in the EW article that her name has an unexpected origin. I know how cryptic that sounds and I'm mad too, I wanna know more.

Directer JJ Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan on the Starkiller Base set. Interesting note: as you'll see the script pages are a deep red and as that might seem to be a pain to read, it's actually a security measure to prevent copying.

Oscar Isaac walking away from a black X-Wing. There's a specific reason X-Wings are black now, we're told, and that reason won't be revealed just yet. What do you think?

Same lovable droids but with slightly different looks. Of course you will notice C-3PO's left arm is now red and R2D2's legs are black. I mean, these droids are how old? They'll need new parts after a while, right?

No explanation needed.

As promised, EW did a piece about Kylo Ren and, without spoiling really anything, they did pose a few questions and ideas to get Star Wars fans wondering more specifically about this character. Here are some highlights
  • He's allied with the First Order, a remnant of the Empire with enough resources to be a viable threat.
  • The design of Ren's mask is meant to be a nod to Vader, as confirmed by Abrams, and the origins of the mask will be revealed in the movie. "Ren is well aware of what's come before, and that's very much a part of the story of the film."
  • Abrams confirmed that the much talked about Ren lightsaber is something made by Ren on his own and that's what it's dangerous, powerful and ragged.
  • Abrams also alludes to Kylo Ren not being fully formed as a character just yet, much light Luke at the beginning of A New Hope but we will see his development and formation as part of the story.
  • Kylo Ren isn't his birth name but "Ren" is much like the "Darth" title given to sith masters. Kylo came to the name when he joined a group called the "Knights of Ren." No detail on the Knights of Ren will be released until the movie premieres on Dec. 18th.
  • EW alluded to maybe if we knew Kylo Ren's real name, we would know a lot more about his back story. They also mentioned that there's a possibility that we know his parents. But we'll have to wait til the movie to know for sure.
So a tiny bit of light has been shed on the mysterious villain of The Force Awakens. We have our theories on who Kylo Ren really is but what are your theories?
