Irrelevant But Awesome

Last month we were hit with an overwhelming amount of Hollywood advertising and announcements in the form of Comic-Con 2016. Originally I was going to try to compile a huge post of all the big stories and trailers that were released over the weekend but that quickly became an insurmountable task. With new announcements happening all the time, there were announcements happening faster than could be reported on. This isn't even a complete list of every trailer that was released at comic-con (Trailers for Netflix Marvel shows Luke Cage , Iron Fist and The Defenders were released as well) but it is a list of some of the biggest trailers to debut this year from Comic-Con gathered in one place for your viewing pleasure. A while back, we talked about the new "adult" prime time Muppet TV show that will be premiering on ABC this fall. The show was described to me as "The Office but with Muppets." And then came the  trailer  that suddenly made me NEED for the show to be on the air. Now comes an extended look at the show. ABC's YouTube channel posted a 10 minute video that was originally only meant for the Comic Con attendees (a slight nudge and a wink at DC, I'm sure) but has release the video that was presented as a pitch video that originally got ABC on-board to making the show. I'll let you go ahead and watch the video below but I'll go ahead and share my thoughts: I need this show like I need water.

With it being Comic-con weekend and all, there have been a ton of announcements flying left and right all weekend long. We covered as many of the big ones that we could, but there have been so many, it's easy for one or two to have slipped through the cracks. So now that things have finally started to calm down, here's a quick rundown of some of the announcements that were made over the past weekend that haven't been covered yet. There's a Trailer out for The Man in the High Castle : Amazon's original series is based on the Phillip K. Dick story of the same name, about an alternate world where World War II went the other way. Like other Amazon shows, the pilot has already been avalible for viewing, but the trailer does have some footage of upcoming episodes. Yesterday, Warner Bros. was "forced" to release the trailer for Suicide Squad even though they didn't want to, because footage of the trailer showing at Comic-con had leaked online. In a statement, Sue Kroll, WB's President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution said the following: “Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the  Suicide Squad  footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.” You know what? There has been a lot of hype about a lot of things at SDCC this year. And for the most part, if it isn't about Star Wars, it's comic book movies. I am all totally for this news. But there is another trailer that has been released at Comic Con that I am equally excited about. A few years ago, there was this little television show that I was a HUGE fan of called Heroes. Season one was phenomenal! The dynamic characters, the interlocking story lines, the amazing drama and action that came out of this extraordinary event in human evolution! It was captivating! Season two was still good. Not quite as incredible as the first one. We had seen the special humans and what they could do but never thought about the consequences. Season three tapered still more. And season four was just lacking in all of the creative originality that struck that chord. It didn't help that it was one of the victims of the great writers strike a few years back. As revealed in the video below, everybody's favorite weekly zombie action drama will be returning to AMC on October 11th in a 90-minute season premiere. Alright, since we've had a few hours to calm down from the excitement from the  Star Wars panel from last night , I thought it might be a good idea to really go through everything that we've learned about Star Wars and The Force Awakens the past few days. Possible Episode IX Director? We'll start with the  rumor  that broke earlier yesterday that Colin Trevorrow might be picked to helm Episode IX. Trevorrow is fresh off the record-breaking Jurassic World that was released a few weeks ago. A lot of skepticism went around about how Trevorrow would handle his first big budget film and he emphatically silenced those critics and is now one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood at the moment. It's been long announced that Episode VIII would be directed by Rian Johnson (of Looper fame) and was speculated to also be directing IX as well but that would clearly not be the case if this Trevorrow rumor turns out to be true (still no statement from Lucasfilm or Disn...

We were all a bit bummed to hear that no new scenes or trailers would debut for Force Awakens at San Diego Comic Con 2015 this weekend. Some of us thought that announcement might have been a swerve to surprise fans but alas, no new scenes and no new trailer. But that doesn't mean there wasn't something for the fans to see. In a panel that featured Lucasfilm Queen Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, and writer Lawrence Kasdan, they brought out a few surprises like the creature that was shown J.J. Abrams omaze video last year and a few other guests. Cast members Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson (whose character is still a mystery), and Gwendolin Christie all appeared on stage and answered a few questions. Then the big surprises were when the original 3 made an appearance. Of course, I'm talking about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and even Harrison Ford.
