The Suicide Squad Trailer We Weren't Suppose to See...Yet
Below is a statement from Sue Kroll, President Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures
"Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation."
In basic terms, they showed some footage in front of a bunch of journalists and bloggers in Hall H at Comic Con this weekend and asked none of them to record said footage, crossing their fingers that nobody would post it. So what happened? Everybody posted it and Warner Bros. was unable to control all the websites from posting their footage. So now, not only is Warner Bros. mad all everyone for posting when they asked very nicely for everyone not to, now they're mad that their footage is being viewed by the public via iPhone recording or otherwise (although the "poor quality" excuse is less relevant these days). Honestly, this is a ploy for Warner Bros. to not look like they're bullying bloggers for content THEY shared but now is trying to save face and say that it's about "video quality." Either way, Warner Bros. has given up on taking down all these videos and decided the best way to combat this is to release their trailer for Suicide Squad, ready or not.
