Irrelevant But Awesome

Joel:  This movie is 2 hours and 45 minutes. 2 hours. And 45 minutes. And the Dinobots? the ones that were front and center of all the advertising for this movie? They show up at the 2 hour and 10 minute mark. There’s just too much here. I can get behind sometimes just watching a explosion heavy action movie for the thrill every now and then. But by the time you’re going into the third hour with the 20th explosion scene, you just kind of start to get numb to the whole thing. And every additional scene that feels unnecessary just seems to drag. The movie took time to explain the Romeo and Juliet law and why it was ok (legally at least) for a twenty year old character to be dating a seventeen year old character. But your movie is almost three hours. Can’t the girl just be eighteen and save us all that additional scene. But perhaps the greatest error of the entire movie. It’s the fourth Transformers movie and they didn’t call it Trans4mers. Who dropped the ball on that one? ...

Here we are, heading into the final month of Summer of Netflix. Soon all the kids will be back to school, our busy lives will continue and there will not be a need to sit around and figure out what to watch on Netflix every day. But we've still got one more month of movies for us to share together before that time comes and here it is: The August schedule for Summer of Netflix!

For those who don't know, ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) in many ways created the movie experience that you have today. The special effects company was founded by George Lucas more or less when no company existed that would be able to realize his vision for Star Wars on the screen. Since then, ILM has gone on to create the effects for over three hundred movies over the past forty years. To celebrate this milestone, they've released a video celebrating some of their finest moments in special effects. With the winter movie season getting into full swing, we're starting to get some new trailers for the big deal movies of next summer. And this week's overblown action movie trailer is a new one for Battleship, the very expensive version of the board game you played growing up as a child. Again, nothing in the trailer reminds me of of a bunch of red and white pegs and plastic boats, so every comment about the first trailer is still relevant. This time around we are reminded that this comes from the same company that brought us the Transformers (Hasbro) and I have to say, the aliens (or robots, or whatever the bad guys in the movie are) do seem to look a lot like the suped up versions of the Trasformers that Michael Bay cooked up. As always, lots of explosions and gunplay is prevalant, but we are still mysteriously short on any details of what the plot of the movie might be. Anyway, check it out for yourself below.

Look at these: LOOK!!! Do you know what this means? It looks to me like the Dinobots are going to be in the third Trasnformers movie. I'll admit, I never really expected to see these guys in the live action movies. Even when some of the ads for Revenge of The Fallen boasted something like 46 new robots in the movie, I never really expected them to draw from the dinobots line. I guess the next question is, are these the only two that are going to appear, or will we get even more of the line? And does this mean a Beast Wars movie in the future?

So we got the title, and then the poster, and now we have our first look at the teaser trailer for the third Transformers movie called Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Which you can watch on Apple's website or right here: Trailer opens with loud music and the date July 20, 1969. (the moon landing for those who don't know) We watch the landing through hat looks to be a combination of computer effects and bits of actual footage from back on earth. Therare told that our nation;s proudest moment contains a secret that's been hidden for forty years. Ok this is already reminding me of the teaser for the first movie. Does anyone remember that? We see lots of footage for the Mars rover looking at the dead surface of Mars and the footage ends with a shot of a Transformer silhouette attacking the rover and you were left wondering what Mars had to do with Transformers. Didn't they come from Cybertron? So the trailer caries on to show a back room where a bunch of NASA techs ...
