Summer of Netflix Day 46 - Transformers: Age of Extinction
Joel: This movie is 2 hours and 45 minutes. 2 hours. And 45 minutes. And the Dinobots? the ones that were front and center of all the advertising for this movie? They show up at the 2 hour and 10 minute mark. There’s just too much here. I can get behind sometimes just watching a explosion heavy action movie for the thrill every now and then. But by the time you’re going into the third hour with the 20th explosion scene, you just kind of start to get numb to the whole thing. And every additional scene that feels unnecessary just seems to drag. The movie took time to explain the Romeo and Juliet law and why it was ok (legally at least) for a twenty year old character to be dating a seventeen year old character. But your movie is almost three hours. Can’t the girl just be eighteen and save us all that additional scene. But perhaps the greatest error of the entire movie. It’s the fourth Transformers movie and they didn’t call it Trans4mers. Who dropped the ball on that one?
Chris: Holy crap, this movie was a load of hot garbage. As the one in charge of making the schedule for Summer of Netflix and picking which movies will be reviewed, I take full responsibility in picking this awful waste of time and money. I will await your judgment as well as punishment, I can only image the level of harshness that is justified in your retaliation. Honestly, who knew a movie about robot aliens would feature so much racism and overall terribleness? I mean, there truly isn’t a single redeemable quality about this movie at all. The dialogue, the acting, the action, the overt product placement, it’s all terrible and should be given the Hulk Hogan treatment.
Does that mean it’s completely unsalvageable? Not quite, according to the folks over at Auralnauts. They came up with a video that includes 10 ways to massively improve this movie with the simple art of editing and adding certain audio. Check it out below and maybe we can all feel a little bit better about this movie, yes?
