Irrelevant But Awesome

For those who don't know, ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) in many ways created the movie experience that you have today. The special effects company was founded by George Lucas more or less when no company existed that would be able to realize his vision for Star Wars on the screen. Since then, ILM has gone on to create the effects for over three hundred movies over the past forty years. To celebrate this milestone, they've released a video celebrating some of their finest moments in special effects. As a fairly big Indiana Jones fan, I adore the classic Raiders of the Lost Ark movie poster that we are all familiar with. It is truly a majestic thing, and ranks up there among what I would consider to be one of the best move posters of all time.  But like all movies, there were other posters, posters that for whatever reason, were not selected and thus never saw the light of day, until now.  This is just one of several posters that ended up not getting used, but nonetheless is an amazing poster. And just in case you can't tell from the art style, that is indeed an drawing from Drew Struzan who is famous for many posters from the era including Star Wars, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, and the Indiana Jones posters that you are familiar with.  Screen Crush has a whole bunch of Indy posters for you to check out on their site. 

Yesterday was the birthday of a great man. An amazing man. A man who contributed more to your movie going experience than you will probably ever know. This Man. John Williams, who turned 80 this year is responsible for seemingly almost every iconic film score. Anything theme you can hum just from hearing the title of the movie is most likely composed by Williams from Star Wars, to Indiana Jones, to Harry Potter to Jaws. It helps that Williams has had a long time working relationship with Steven Spielberg, having composed music for all but two of his projects. So even some of the less iconic Spielberg movies, Hook, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, aslo have Original scores by Williams. But it's these "lesser known" works that I want to touch on for a minutes.
