Irrelevant But Awesome

As a franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is one that has reached a level that few can ever hope to obtain. From movies, to video games, to action figures, to, of course, TV shows, the turtles are everywhere. And for many, the biggest part of that franchise was the Turtles cartoon from the late 80s and early 90s. Which is why it's so mind boggling that these have been the most difficult incarnations to get of the turtles for some time now.  James Rolfe, (The Angry Video Game Nerd of Cinnemassacre) released a video some time back that explains the tragedy of the Ninja Turtles DVD releases better than I ever possibly could. Half of Comic-con is left but I'm not sure that any teasers revealed there are going to be as exciting to me as this. I was at Celebration last year when the Star Wars Blu Ray's were announced and we got to see the deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. Like then, watching this teaser was an almost surreal experience. I've watched the Star Wars movies so many times, that I'm familiar with every single action from every single character, just as I'm sure many of you are. Every step, every line, every raised eyebrow. Now there is footage of these characters, characters I know so well, doing things and being in situations I've never seen before. Take a look below. Its a rare movie series, where the deleted scenes merit a trailer of their own but if any series deserves the distinction, I think it's safe to say that Star Wars is that series.

Because yesterday was May the 4th (as in May the fourth be with you) Lucasfilm took the opportunity to reveal some rather big news about the upcoming Star Wars Blue Ray releases, namely the Cover Art. Three images were released, One for the Original Trilogy boxed set, One for the Prequel trilogy, and one for the Complete Saga. The two trilogy packs, as seen below, feature artwork with giant heads of some of the main characters, Darth Vader (for the original trilogy) and Yoda (for the prequel trilogy.) These both remind me a bit of the "big head" boxed set that came out back in the 90s. The Complete Saga art on the other hand surprised me a bit. Take a look. First of all, the art is much more simple than we're used to. Most of the DVD releases in the past have featured very busy pictures featuring several characters, as well as some action scenes or explosions for good measure. Captain America you say? You may be thinking that I am talking about this movie. The one that will be hitting theaters later this year. But we all knew that was coming out. What I want to talk about today is this movie Made in 1990, this version of Captain America never actually made it into theaters and has never been released on DVD. Those who dig through Ebay long enough may be able to find a rather rare copy of the VHS copy that was released. However, thanks to the new movie coming out this summer, we will finally be able to see the first Captain America movie make it's debut on DVD some time this May. And not only will it be released but it will be a director's cut version with about 30 extra minutes of footage. Now it is the general consensus that this movie was terrible. And being that I have never seen the whole thing, I can't say for sure one way or the other. But check back in May when I will most certainly have gotten a copy of this.
