Red State Gets a trailer

You know what your getting when you go to a Kevin Smith movie. A lot of talking, minimal action, and usually tons and tons of profanity. It will be a crude comedy but will still more than likely fit nicely into the feel-good section on the shelf. Well not anymore.

Kevin Smith's new film Red State got it's first trailer released today and don't let the audio of Smith laughing at the beginning fool you. The rest of this trailer shows a wild departure of anything you would expect from his past works. Funny? No. Intense? Yes. Camera movement? Lots of it. And some guns too. Because it's a teaser trailer there's not a whole lot of plot revealed (read no plot at all) but it sets up the feel of a movie that could be a great horror movie from a previously comedy only director.

What with all the talk about the Oscar nominations getting announced today, one particular nomination has been overlooked. Namely the fact that even though the ENTIRE soundtrack was overlooked by the Golden Globes the Oscars at least did right by the best bunch of original songs this year and nominated Man or Muppet as on of the contenders for Best Original Song. Day 5 of Halloween - The Fly (1958)

Jason:  First of all, I hope that everyone watched the right iteration of this film. The one with Vincent Price, not Jeff Goldblum.  Now that we’ve gotten that straight… This movie is considered to be a Halloween cult classic. It doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of scares or terror but it still remains a seasonal favorite. For the time, the make-up effects were decent. The way Andre’s fly head twitches and vibrates makes it look pretty convincing for a 1950’s puppet mask. The story, however, is what is so captivating. I have been reading a lot of Lovecraft stories lately and I couldn’t help but draw a comparison between them and this movie. The plot is very Lovecraftian. Let me explain: The main character is a highly intellectual recluse who spends most of his time in research. He stumbles across some natural secret that ultimately leads to his destruction.
