Header deciphering!

So as you might have noticed, our header is full of very varied nerdy things. I thought I'd go through and tell you a little bit about all of them in case you had no idea what some stuff is. From left to right, top to bottom.
  • U.S.S. Enterprise, of course! Quite a lot of us like Star Trek, except for Jason, who takes stock in the "you can't like both Star Wars and Star Trek" idea.
  • Harry Potter Broom. Almost all of us love Harry Potter, I think. We had a big group together for Deathly Hallows Part 1, which was amazing by the way.
  • Randy Orton! Chris and Joel especially are big WWE fans.
  • TARDIS Claire and I are huge Dr.Who fans. We're so excited for the Christmas special!
  • The Joker I think is pretty self-explanatory. All of us are comic book/movie nerds in some way shape or form I think.
  • Calvin and Hobbes ...because Calvin and Hobbes are awesome.
  • Perry the Platypus Phineas and Ferb is amazing! If you don't watch it, you're missing out.
  • N64 Controller Like the best gaming system ever. If you didn't spend your childhood failing at that damn penguin race in Mario 64, you didn't have a childhood.
  • B.R.A.I.N.Z. Logo Our own Jason runs our local zombie walk and his fabulous logo deserved a place of honor.
  • D20 Jason and Neil especially love tabletop gaming. Neil's got us all addicted to Arkham Horror.
  • Boba Fett Because few people are more badass.
  • VHS Tape We're all movie fans, and DVDs don't look as cool.
  • Totoro A lot of us like Studio Ghibli movies, and some of us are anime fans in general.
  • Flux Capacitor Cause it's cool.
  • Kirby for just a little more Nintendo nerdiness. It's Sam's favorite character as well.
  • Sewing Machine Craftyness is my middle name! Several of us are into cosplay as well.
  • Books! Books are super cool.
  • Zephron Partially A Very Potter Musical reference, and partially because Joel legitimately likes High School Musical. Joel, John, and Sam have this picture printed out in black and white, framed, and hung in their living room.
  • Charizard Pokemon is so cool, you guys.
I think it pretty well covers everyone's interests. We are fans of other things of course, but the things we have in common are all up there.

What with all the talk about the Oscar nominations getting announced today, one particular nomination has been overlooked. Namely the fact that even though the ENTIRE soundtrack was overlooked by the Golden Globes the Oscars at least did right by the best bunch of original songs this year and nominated Man or Muppet as on of the contenders for Best Original Song. Sure my pick would have been for Life's a Happy Song, but that's not what's important. What is important is that The Muppets got an Oscar Nomination! YAAAAAAAAAY

Day 5 of Halloween - The Fly (1958)

Jason:  First of all, I hope that everyone watched the right iteration of this film. The one with Vincent Price, not Jeff Goldblum.  Now that we’ve gotten that straight… This movie is considered to be a Halloween cult classic. It doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of scares or terror but it still remains a seasonal favorite. For the time, the make-up effects were decent. The way Andre’s fly head twitches and vibrates makes it look pretty convincing for a 1950’s puppet mask. The story, however, is what is so captivating. I have been reading a lot of Lovecraft stories lately and I couldn’t help but draw a comparison between them and this movie. The plot is very Lovecraftian. Let me explain: The main character is a highly intellectual recluse who spends most of his time in research. He stumbles across some natural secret that ultimately leads to his destruction. Gossip Girl 2021 Review (based on one episode)

  It’s been nine years since the last time we’ve heard the famous “XOXO” sign off from Kristen Bell’s voice. Nine years since the high school soap opera full of lying, cheating, rumor filled friends to enemies and enemies to lovers saga has been seen. So it’s time to crank up the reboot machine and bring back Gossip Girl. What does a new Gossip Girl mean in the year 2021? How have things changed? How have they stayed the same?
