Irrelevant But Awesome

The Walking Dead continued its reign as a television juggernaut that refuses to quit Sunday with the highly anticipated debut of companion series Fear the Walking Dead. And to the surprise of absolutely no one, the new show is already a hit. Fear the Walking Dead broke the record for the highest-rated cable series premiere with 10.1 million viewers, including 6.3 million adults in the 18-49 demo. The 90-minute premiere surpassed another AMC debut, Better Call Saul, which previously held the record in the demo after it bowed to 6.9 million total viewers and 4.4 million in the 18-49 bracket in February. The show serves as a prequel/spin-off of The Walking Dead, set in Los Angeles and chronicling the early days of the zombie apocalypse, during which time Rick was in a coma in the original series.  The first season consists of six episodes, leading into the Oct. 11 return of The Walking Dead. As revealed in the video below, everybody's favorite weekly zombie action drama will be returning to AMC on October 11th in a 90-minute season premiere. Can we talk for a few minutes about how much I love Halloween? I love everything about it, from the candy and trick-r-treating, to costumes and parties, to horror movies and awesome music. I make it a point to celebrate Halloween hard! A quick history lesson, Halloween originated as part of a harvest festival based around the Autumnal Equinox. Some parts of what we now call Halloween came from Celtic ritual, like carving scary faces into pumpkins which were set out to scare evil spirits away from your home. Some things came from other festivals like Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, such as dressing in costumes in order to hide from/blend in with the spirits as they walked about on the earth. Today's Halloween is enjoyed very much for fun and holds little to no spiritual value for most people. I mean, it isn't even considered a "National" holiday. Just so you all know, I don't have time to watch "Clone Wars" on tv when the episodes air, and the Star Wars website doesn't post them until a week afterwards so I am perpetually a week behind. It is unfortunate but necessary... Anyways, this past weeks's episode was another Senate episode. While this particular story arc is fascinating in showing the politics behind the war (something nerds like us can appreciate), these episodes with now clones and no Jedi get a bit redundant. Also, this whole jumping around the timeline thing would be confusing if I were just watching the show on television. The one that aired last week (this most recent one) takes place mere days before the episode in the middle of last season where Padme's Rodian Senator friend, Onaconda Farr, is poisoned.
