Irrelevant But Awesome

Joel:  Later this month, we will see the release of Tomb Raider, a movie that’s aims to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, loosely based on the video game that rebooted the Tomb Raider franchise back in 2013. This is the latest attempt by Hollywood to make the first good video game movie. Now, you personally might have enjoyed one of the movies based on video games that have come out in the past, I personally have enjoyed quite a few of them, but most people will agree that most of the movies based on video games have been bad. And so far there hasn’t been a single one that has been universally acclaimed. Super Mario Bros., the first movie based on a video game, came out in 1993. Since then there have been over thirty theatrically released movies based on video games with none of them scoring higher than a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you're subscribed to our YouTube channel, you've noticed that we've been posting a new gameplay video every day this past week of Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. It's really a simple game but it does that simple so well that it's astonishing. It's a game I've been putting off for months simply because I didn't know what it was and now that I do know, I find it hard to explain. But I finally went through it in one night last weekend and enjoyed the experience that I immediately played it again the next day to record it for the IBA YouTube. It's visually stunning which it would have to be considering it's almost exclusively landscapes with the light recordings taking a vague human shapes. The biggest MVP of this game has to be the audio, both the audio engineering as well as the breathtaking soundtrack (one of my better iTunes impulse buys, by the way).  Of course, be prepared for some slow moments between major plot points due to the g...

This week, the IBA Studios YouTube account has been busy with the continuation of Chris painstakingly trudging through Pokemon while Joel and Neil continue to be pricks about the whole thing. Also, the crew began a new series with Canadian heartthrob, Blair, joins us in our attempt to create the perfect presidential candidate to bring down the evil Donald Trump. According to Joel, Chris' childhood was severely lacking due to the fact that Chris never played Pokemon, a problem Joel and Neil took upon themselves by making Chris finally play it. Clearly, Chris is not enjoy his time through Pokemon so he decided he would respond in kind by having Neil play his way through the indie game called Plug & Play. I don't have a Nintendo Wii U yet. But I'm going to cave, I just know I am. The first blow was Super Mario 3D World. I only played the game for a few minutes on a friends console, but man that was magical. It's the kind of game that transports you right back to that feeling you got playing your favorite Mario game as a kid (Super Mario 64 for me). The second blow was the new Super Smash Bros. game though I obviously don't need to go into much detail here. If there's a Smash Bros game out there, you need it. Simple enough. The next blow was Splatoon. Again, it was a game that looked fun, but I wanted to wait to see if this game would actually be any good. So It's been about a week since Splatoon hit the store shelves, and you may or may not have noticed that it's been getting a lot of attention. For all of you who have not been on the hype train to Inkopolis for the past year here's everything you need to know: Source The Basics: This is Nintendo's first time treading into the hostile waters of the online shooter genre and the general consensus is that they did a pretty stellar job. Online shooters are fairly straight forward, you play over the internet with other people and shoot each other, but otherwise they're not known for being the most welcoming of games to get into. That's where Splatoon comes in.  The main mode of play is "Turf War" a 4v4, 3 minute match where the goal is to have more ground covered with your team's color of ink at the end than your opponents.
