The tale of how Black Angel got to this point is an amazing one. Back in the late 70s Star Wars art director, Roger Christian directed a 25-minute short about a medieval knight who must free a mysterious, beautiful maiden from her capture, The Black Angel. The movie was played before a few screenings of The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 but then, nothing. The movie was never released on any home format or screened in a theater again. The original negatives of the short were lost, making Black Angel a lost film. All that remainded was the memories of a handful of people who swore they saw a fantasy short before The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. Then in 2011 a 35mm copy of the negative was found by an archivist in LA. The previously lost film was painstakingly restored and on May 12th, it was uploaded in it's entirity to YouTube. So I'm a big fan of old interviews. The idea of people talking about something that we consider classic, back when it was a brand new thing is always interesting. The interest is even greater when it comes to Star Wars because so much of the franchise's history is all about "what comes next." The idea that there would be more movies, and more stories to tell in the universe is something that's always been with Star Wars so in every interview we get questions about the next chapters of the saga. In this interview, released some time in 1980 (probably very close to the film's release since they won't talk about the connection between Darth Vader and Luke) we get to hear about the intended nine films that Star Wars was going to be. It's interesting to listen to the ideas that they had about the prequel movies back in 1980. Because yesterday was May the 4th (as in May the fourth be with you) Lucasfilm took the opportunity to reveal some rather big news about the upcoming Star Wars Blue Ray releases, namely the Cover Art. Three images were released, One for the Original Trilogy boxed set, One for the Prequel trilogy, and one for the Complete Saga. The two trilogy packs, as seen below, feature artwork with giant heads of some of the main characters, Darth Vader (for the original trilogy) and Yoda (for the prequel trilogy.) These both remind me a bit of the "big head" boxed set that came out back in the 90s. The Complete Saga art on the other hand surprised me a bit. Take a look. First of all, the art is much more simple than we're used to. Most of the DVD releases in the past have featured very busy pictures featuring several characters, as well as some action scenes or explosions for good measure.
