Irrelevant But Awesome

Here it is! your first look at (almost) every main character involved in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Suspicious by his absence is, of course, Luke Skywalker, which makes me think that J.J. Abrams is holding onto movie details until the bitter end. (Also is that a new Death Star above Finn's head?!) Also confirmed today was that the first official non-teaser trailer for the movie will air during Monday Night Football tomorrow night (10-19-2015) on the Disney-owned channel ESPN. And finally, you can start buying all of the tickets to see Force Awakens tomorrow as well starting at around 8:30pm EST (depending on your local movie theaters, I suppose). There will be a select number of theaters around the country that will be participating in a Star Wars movie marathon in the hours leading up to the new film's release. For those who remember the vast roundup post of everything that was missed during Comic-con weekend (see it here ) there was a post about Warner Bros. making an adaptation of The Killing Joke . We wondered at the time if Mark Hamill who had pretty much retired as The Joker might pull out the character one more time for perhaps his most famous story. Well it looks like we can say that it's actually going to happen According to collider.com, Mark Hamill will voice the Joker in the upcoming animated feature though no other cast has been mentioned. It should be noted that Warner Bros. has yet to make any official announcement but it can be a small grain, because Mark Hamill has tweeted interest in the project and you can bet that if he's interested Warner Bros. will be thrilled to have him back. The Killing Joke is scheduled to be released some time in 2016.

With it being Comic-con weekend and all, there have been a ton of announcements flying left and right all weekend long. We covered as many of the big ones that we could, but there have been so many, it's easy for one or two to have slipped through the cracks. So now that things have finally started to calm down, here's a quick rundown of some of the announcements that were made over the past weekend that haven't been covered yet. There's a Trailer out for The Man in the High Castle : Amazon's original series is based on the Phillip K. Dick story of the same name, about an alternate world where World War II went the other way. Alright, since we've had a few hours to calm down from the excitement from the  Star Wars panel from last night , I thought it might be a good idea to really go through everything that we've learned about Star Wars and The Force Awakens the past few days. Possible Episode IX Director? We'll start with the  rumor  that broke earlier yesterday that Colin Trevorrow might be picked to helm Episode IX. Trevorrow is fresh off the record-breaking Jurassic World that was released a few weeks ago. A lot of skepticism went around about how Trevorrow would handle his first big budget film and he emphatically silenced those critics and is now one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood at the moment. It's been long announced that Episode VIII would be directed by Rian Johnson (of Looper fame) and was speculated to also be directing IX as well but that would clearly not be the case if this Trevorrow rumor turns out to be true (still no statement from Lucasfilm or Disn...

We were all a bit bummed to hear that no new scenes or trailers would debut for Force Awakens at San Diego Comic Con 2015 this weekend. Some of us thought that announcement might have been a swerve to surprise fans but alas, no new scenes and no new trailer. But that doesn't mean there wasn't something for the fans to see. In a panel that featured Lucasfilm Queen Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, and writer Lawrence Kasdan, they brought out a few surprises like the creature that was shown J.J. Abrams omaze video last year and a few other guests. Cast members Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson (whose character is still a mystery), and Gwendolin Christie all appeared on stage and answered a few questions. Then the big surprises were when the original 3 made an appearance. Of course, I'm talking about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and even Harrison Ford. As presented during the opening panel at Star Wars Celebration that included appearances from the new movie-used R2D2, new droid BB8, new cast members John Boyega,Oscar Isaac, Daisey Ridley and Star Wars vets Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew, director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy finally gave us our second look at the new film. This is the first look at the film since November.Director J.J Abrams did say during the panel that more details will be shared during the weekend event as well as in the coming months before the film's December release.

For the past two Star Wars Celebration events (One in 2010 and one in 2012) I have happily bought a ticket, made the trip and had the time of my life hanging out at the biggest Star Wars event in the country. I've seen George Lucas in person, gotten to touch a life size AT-AT, and more fantastic experiences than I can even count. So it's been a bit of a downer to come to terms with the fact that I wasn't going to be able to make it to Celebration VII this year. Yes some of my friends who had accompanied me in years past were still going this year, so I would get to hear all about it, But for the bulk of this weekend, I was going to have to cope with the fact that thousands of Star Wars fans were going to be hanging out together and I wasn't going to be with them. Recently, several of the writers hear at Irrelevant But Awesome attended Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando. For four days, we were totally immersed in Star Wars, past, present and future. And while there will be time to discuss in great, GREAT detail all of the Star Wars related experiences that we have been through, I wanted to first, take this moment and share with you, something that happened on that trip that was only minimally Star Wars related.  For those that don't know Mark Hamill, who was obviously there for Luke Skywalker related reasons, was also the voice of The Joker on the Batman Animated Series from 1992 till 1995 and then later in several other TV shows, movies, and video games. So I'm a big fan of old interviews. The idea of people talking about something that we consider classic, back when it was a brand new thing is always interesting. The interest is even greater when it comes to Star Wars because so much of the franchise's history is all about "what comes next." The idea that there would be more movies, and more stories to tell in the universe is something that's always been with Star Wars so in every interview we get questions about the next chapters of the saga.
