Irrelevant But Awesome

We live in interesting times. Justice League grossed 96 million dollars in its opening weekend, yet all of the box office analysis of this past weekend are talking about it like Justice League is a disaster financially. How can this be? In what world can 96 million dollars be considered a flop. Sure maybe it performed below expectations or desires, but a disaster? A flop? How is that possible? So, it’s worth it to take a little bit of time and break down the box office results of Justice League this past weekend, to see exactly where it sits. (Note: nothing in this article is meant to be a review or commentary on the actual quality of the movie itself. For those who remember the vast roundup post of everything that was missed during Comic-con weekend (see it here ) there was a post about Warner Bros. making an adaptation of The Killing Joke . We wondered at the time if Mark Hamill who had pretty much retired as The Joker might pull out the character one more time for perhaps his most famous story. Well it looks like we can say that it's actually going to happen According to collider.com, Mark Hamill will voice the Joker in the upcoming animated feature though no other cast has been mentioned. It should be noted that Warner Bros. has yet to make any official announcement but it can be a small grain, because Mark Hamill has tweeted interest in the project and you can bet that if he's interested Warner Bros. will be thrilled to have him back. The Killing Joke is scheduled to be released some time in 2016.

With it being Comic-con weekend and all, there have been a ton of announcements flying left and right all weekend long. We covered as many of the big ones that we could, but there have been so many, it's easy for one or two to have slipped through the cracks. So now that things have finally started to calm down, here's a quick rundown of some of the announcements that were made over the past weekend that haven't been covered yet. With Comic-Con 2015 feeling a good bit like Celebration Part II this year, lets not forget that there are still other announcements being made. WB's biggest ace up their sleeve this year is an extended trailer for their new Batman v Superman movie that comes out next year. Check it out below. I will say, as mixed emotions as I feel about this movie, That shot of Superman pulling apart the Batmobile and then Batman standing up to face him, that was a pretty cool moment. What I really want to know, is what exact timeline are we working with here. Ben Affleck is the oldest person to ever play Batman, and it doesn't look like the movie is trying to shy away from that, with the gray just starting to seep into his hair. So has he been Batman before in this universe? Is Superman arriving what gets him out of retirement? It kind of looks like that with him getting out the old batsuit and turning back on the signal. Did you know that there are currently seven different shows on TV that are about comic book superheroes? No really. You've got Flash and Arrow on the CW, Gotham on Fox, Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter on ABC, Powers on PSN, and Daredevil on Netflix. You can also throw in Walking Dead and iZombie on AMC and CW as they're both based on comic books for a grand total of nine. Well it looks like even more are coming our way as two trailers have debut for superhero shows that are coming out this television season. First up we have Supergirl on CBS. So this looks a lot like early seasons of Smallville with that "How does a Kryptonian make it in this modern busy world?" kind of feel. I'll give it a go, I did like the arguments about how the costume should look. I'm going to try very hard not to bash on DC or Warner Bros here. It will be tricky but at the end of the day, I'm hoping that Batman v Superman is fantastic. I hope that Wonder Woman comes out and is a great movie about the character in her own right. I hope that this is all leading up to a Justice League movie in a few years that will blow everyone's socks off and easily compete with Marvel as a truly great super hero team up film. This is what I genuinely and truly want to have happen, as I'm sure you do as well. But it's getting harder and harder to thing that might ever come true. Over the past several days, there have been several pictures released that have teased what appeared to be pictures of Jared Leto slowly transforming into The Joker, who he will be playing in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Well the final image is here, the first official image of the new Joker, so lets take a look. Well, thats... different. You know, different might not be a bad thing. Whoever was going to have to play The Joker next was going to have to deal with the inevitable comparisons that would be made to Heath Ledger's Joker. To many people, that's the definitive Joker performance now, and a very hard act to follow. So the thought process here might be to simply go as different as possible and make it an apples to oranges situation. It wasn't just Star Wars. I  mean yes, It pretty obvious that in the world of movie trailers, the second teaser for The Force Awakes was clearly the biggest thing to happen in the past week, but in all the excitement of watching, and re-watching, and re-watching the Star Wars trailer, we haven't mentioned any of the other trailers that were released this past week. I don't know how many people out there know about Superman Lives. It's not exactly the best kept secret of the industry but it's not as if the average guy on the street would know what you were talking about if you brought it up. After all we are talking about a movie that never ended up being made. So first a quick recap. Superman Lives was actually one of several "5th Superman" movies that got started and stalled in between Superman IV The Quest for Peace in 1987 and Superman Returns in 2006. After Quest came out to less than stellar success it killed off the current plans for the next Superman chapter. Other stalled projects include Superman Reborn which would have told the " Death of Superman " story from the comics. As well as Superman:Flyby and a rumored Superman vs. Batman movie that were both in pre-production in the early 2000s. It's not the entire pilot yet, but about six minutes of footage has hit the webs which is more than we've ever seen before. Now, really for the first time we can start to get a glance at what the feel of the show might have been. It seems that some of the effects (especially in the fight scene) were not finished but with the show never coming to air, I don't really expect anyone to go back and fix that. Also it seems for all the investment in discussions about the costume, more than one costume were seen in the videos so far. See for yourself.
