Irrelevant But Awesome

My grandmother is a big Stephen King fan. In the 1980s she was the kind of fan who would get each new Stephen King book the day it came out, no questions asked. So growing up, I would often see a long shelf of hardback books, all written by Stephen King. Obviously, looking down that long shelf It was the book that really stood out. Such a huge book. And with such a small title, it was able to appear, giant, on the spine. Two letters that caught your eye at once staring at the bookshelf. “IT.” It, the book is huge. The last time it was adapted it had to be done as a mini-series to try and get enough screen time to adapt the story. This is one of the books that often appears on lists of “unfilmable” works just because of how massive it is. The new It movie approaches this issue by only attempting to adapt half of the book. You can’t really write a review about a Marvel movie being good anymore. At this point that’s pretty much expected. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the fifteenth theatrically released movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they’ve all had at least some amount of critical success to say nothing of commercial success for the fra nchise as a whole. So it doesn’t really mean anything at this point to say that Guardians was good, that much is expected at this point. The natural thing to do would be to compare this movie to the first Guardians of the Galaxy from 2014, but that doesn’t seem very fair either. The first movie was a crazy, off the wall idea of a movie. Something that (at the time) looked like it was going to be Marvel’s riskiest move to date, and most of the audience went into it with little to no expectations. You really have no one to blame but yourself.  Swiss Army Man is a film by "Daniels" the name to collectively identify the team of Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan that is seems to be famously known as "that Daniel Radcliffe farting corpse movie that a bunch of critics walked out on during Sundance." And of course, that's only scratching the surface of the film, even if it's the most prominent identifying feature of it. So let's just hit a few points in the plot to start things off. Hank (played by Paul Dano) is stranded on an island for some time and has given up hope of rescue or surviving as he places a noose that's dangling at the mouth of a cave around his neck. I'm going to go ahead and say it. All of this "Pixar's really lost it recently" talk that's been passed about the internet never really sat right with me. Cars 2? Easily the worst movie Pixar has ever made. But is it really worthy of a 39% on Rotten Tomatoes? No. (And most of the negative reviews do have some nice things to say about it.) Some are down on Brave saying it failed to live up to Pixar standards, but that movie coming out of any other studio would be hailed as one of their crowning achievements. The point is even those who want to say that Pixar is no longer the creative juggernaut they once were, has nothing to say in the face of Inside Out. Inside Out is everything and more that you could wish for when going to see a Pixar movie.
