Irrelevant But Awesome

Alright, since we've had a few hours to calm down from the excitement from the  Star Wars panel from last night , I thought it might be a good idea to really go through everything that we've learned about Star Wars and The Force Awakens the past few days. Possible Episode IX Director? We'll start with the  rumor  that broke earlier yesterday that Colin Trevorrow might be picked to helm Episode IX. Trevorrow is fresh off the record-breaking Jurassic World that was released a few weeks ago. A lot of skepticism went around about how Trevorrow would handle his first big budget film and he emphatically silenced those critics and is now one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood at the moment. It's been long announced that Episode VIII would be directed by Rian Johnson (of Looper fame) and was speculated to also be directing IX as well but that would clearly not be the case if this Trevorrow rumor turns out to be true (still no statement from Lucasfilm or Disn...

Jurassic World was probably destined to be a hit, but I don’t know that anyone expected it to completely shatter box office records. The film raked in $208.8 million domestically last weekend, surpassing The Avengers’ $207.4 million record, and soared past Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’s $314 million international bow with $315.3 million. But it seems Marvel, for one, doesn’t have any hard feelings. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige tweeted his congratulations to the Jurassic World team today, including, of course, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. The tweet features fun artwork by Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park, depicting a dinosaur-riding Pratt lording over the befuddled Avengers. I probably don't need to say whether or not you need to see this movie. Chances are, you already saw Jurassic World this past weekend due to the fact that It's now the highest opening weekends of all time. ( Jurassic World made more money last weekend than Jurassic Park III made in its entire theatrical run.) So instead of a standard movie review, I want to really look at where Jurassic World succeed in ways that the middle two installments of the franchise failed. First of all lets go ahead and make sure we're clear on the pecking order of the Jurassic Park film franchise. The original Jurassic Park is a near masterpiece of film. From characters, to plot, to score, to special effects, Jurassic Park is held aloft as a well done film through and through. The Lost World is not bad, but is deeply problematic. It wasn't just Star Wars. I  mean yes, It pretty obvious that in the world of movie trailers, the second teaser for The Force Awakes was clearly the biggest thing to happen in the past week, but in all the excitement of watching, and re-watching, and re-watching the Star Wars trailer, we haven't mentioned any of the other trailers that were released this past week.
