Irrelevant But Awesome

With it being Comic-con weekend and all, there have been a ton of announcements flying left and right all weekend long. We covered as many of the big ones that we could, but there have been so many, it's easy for one or two to have slipped through the cracks. So now that things have finally started to calm down, here's a quick rundown of some of the announcements that were made over the past weekend that haven't been covered yet. There's a Trailer out for The Man in the High Castle : Amazon's original series is based on the Phillip K. Dick story of the same name, about an alternate world where World War II went the other way. Like other Amazon shows, the pilot has already been avalible for viewing, but the trailer does have some footage of upcoming episodes. Over the past several days, there have been several pictures released that have teased what appeared to be pictures of Jared Leto slowly transforming into The Joker, who he will be playing in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Well the final image is here, the first official image of the new Joker, so lets take a look. Well, thats... different. You know, different might not be a bad thing. Whoever was going to have to play The Joker next was going to have to deal with the inevitable comparisons that would be made to Heath Ledger's Joker. To many people, that's the definitive Joker performance now, and a very hard act to follow. So the thought process here might be to simply go as different as possible and make it an apples to oranges situation. Several weeks ago, it was announced that after much deliberation and lots of negotiation, a deal has finally been reached that will allow the character of Spider-man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then rumors have been running wild with what the third incarnation of Spider-man in less than ten years was going to be like. Who would be playing him? How soon would he appear? How will Spider-Man factor into the already packed schedule that Marvel has lined up between now and 2020? You should have been expecting this one. It was only a matter of time before I'd bring out racial problems in nerd culture. More specifically this is about the lack of racial diversity in comics and comic movies and how we are failing to fix that problem. Donald Glover of Community and Derrick Comedy fame started an internet campaign to be the new Spiderman a number of months back. Donald Glover is a black man. The role eventually went to an up-and-comer Brit who is white. Here is a lost opportunity for racial diversity in the superhero movie genre. I want to start with this. First, asking for a white character to become another race for the sake of racial diversity is not racist. The other way around, making a non-white character white, is racist. BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS WILL BE WHITE. This is a non-issue now people. And the flimsiest of excuses I have heard.
