Irrelevant But Awesome

Jason:  And now, for the piece de resistance ! Ever since this movie came out, there has been a debate amongst fans. Is this a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? I’ve always ascribed to the philosophy “Porque no los dos?” and thus I watch it every Halloween AND Christmas. Anyone who has ever known me knows that I can recite this film from front to back, dialogue, sound effects, and all. I don’t know what it is about it but I just love it dearly. When it first came out, it was not the first stop-motion animation movie. There have been claymation films and stop motion for almost as long as there have been movies! See Ray Harryhousen for some of the best in the craft. But this was one of the first fully stop-motion feature films to use armature puppets. It was also Tim Burton’s first go at a feature length animated film and it is arguably still his best. The music is memorable and singable. Joel:  Batman you guys. Ok, so Batman, at least in popular culture has pretty much been confined to the Christopher Nolan version of Batman in the past several years. And for the most part that’s fine. All three of his movies are impressive with at least one of them easily standing as one of the best comic book movies of all time. But just because there are great Batman movies from 2005 onward, doesn’t mean that we should disregard some of the earlier incarnations of Batman. In 1989 Tim Burton made an incredible Batman movie. It was easily the best comic book movie of it’s day and still holds up incredibly well all these years later. The dark twisted gothic noir of Gotham is beautifully stylized in a representation of how Burton would see that crime ridden city. The score is amazing. John William’s score for Superman is heralded as it should be but Danny Elfman did something truly spectacular with the music in this movie. And again, it’s difficult now not to simply cast Batm...

I don't know how many people out there know about Superman Lives. It's not exactly the best kept secret of the industry but it's not as if the average guy on the street would know what you were talking about if you brought it up. After all we are talking about a movie that never ended up being made. So first a quick recap. Superman Lives was actually one of several "5th Superman" movies that got started and stalled in between Superman IV The Quest for Peace in 1987 and Superman Returns in 2006. After Quest came out to less than stellar success it killed off the current plans for the next Superman chapter. Other stalled projects include Superman Reborn which would have told the " Death of Superman " story from the comics. As well as Superman:Flyby and a rumored Superman vs. Batman movie that were both in pre-production in the early 2000s.
