Top 30 Muse Songs (5 - 1)

We finally made it, the top 5 Muse songs ever according to me (with other's thoughts in mind...sort of). Their new album Drones has been released in most of the world by now and, from the sound of it, I may be revisiting this least at some point in the future to add in a few of the new songs (actually one of their new songs just might top the list as my favorite). At any rate, a full review of Drones will be popping up on Irrelevant But Awesome very soon and then, I promise I will shut up about Muse for a little while...maybe. Here's a refresher on the previous songs in the list: 30-2625-2120-1615-1110-6.

5. Unintended
A fan favorite since the band's beginning, Unintended is probably the most optimistic love songs you'll ever hear without wanting to set the world ablaze from an overdoes of happy. The song is about that special someone that is even more special because it was unexpected and is a light at the end of a depressing tunnel. It might be a naive notion but a little bit won't hurt anybody.

4. Micro Cuts
The best way I can describe what this song sounds like to someone that hasn't heard the song before, is that it's a storm. The verses are like standing outside, looking out on a flat plain and seeing a dark, ominous cloud approaching quickly, the chorus is like the storm clouds getting close enough to see the violent and frequent lightning strikes. By the time you get to the last minute, the song has turned into a violent and angry tornado destroying a trailer park. The MVP of this song is Matt Bellamy's ghostly falsetto that reaches level that are almost inhuman. By the time I heard this song for the first time, I knew Muse was the best band on the planet.

3. Plug-In Baby
A main-stay to Muse's live show and guaranteed to get even the crankiest of audience members on their feet. The song was featured in Guitar Hero (the 2nd time they received that honor) and Matt Bellamy was an unlockable character which gave us this super creepy Bellamy rendering. It's an incredible experience to see live, the patented Bellamy guitar spin included, and the outro is perfection.

2. Stockholm Syndrome
I know it's probably aggravated the several times in this list where I just don't have the words to say to describe how great a song is. Stockholm is the ultimate indescribable awesome song and there's so many different videos of this song and each would be and intriguing for you all to watch. The studio version is always a solid choice, the performance that ended in destruction and fan participation, and even a more recent performance that led to a semi-private jam session. However, there's really only ultimate video of Muse performing this song. Hold onto your butts.

1. Knights of Cydonia
Let's not kid ourselves, this list is a bit of a personal bias on my part. I tried to be objective about songs that I'm not crazy about but I understand other fans adore them but, truthfully, this list really should be called "Chris' Favorite Muse Songs." Knight of Cydonia was the beginning for me, it was the song that got me on board and got me completely hooked.
The song pretty much has it all, the spaghetti western feel inspired by the work of Ennio Morricone and enough sci-fi to make the common nerd (me) happy. What's even better? The song has the most absurdly awesome music video that I've ever seen. It's got a little bit of surf rock inspired by Dick Dale and if you notice, there's a little hint of The Tornados' (Bellamy's dad was their rhythm guitarist) hit "Telstar" in there as well. All of that sounds like a massive cluster but somehow it works, add in a bit of harmonica in the live performance and you have that one song that absolutely has to be played at every single concert they perform.

So that's it! The list is complete. So what do you think? If you're new to the band, what do you think about them and do you feel like you've been properly educated about Muse? And for those that have already been initiated, where did I go wrong with this list? Let me know in the comments below! No comments mean you all agree 100% with what I say and I'm always right, no take backs.
