Jameis Winston: Franchise Savior or Future Bust?

Image
At 8:00pm EST on April 30th, 2015, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will select Jameis Winston with the top pick of this year's draft, it's a forgone conclusion and we've all pretty much accepted it. But what is going to happen beyond that? Sure he won the Heisman Trophy in 2013 but that seems to rarely translate into any NFL success, just look at the the 10 winners of the award before him: 2012 - Johnny Manziel: It's still early to call him a bust just yet but given his horrible play with the Browns in his rookie season last year and off-field antics, the future looks bleak thus far. 2011 - Robert Griffin III: Still may be too early but being benched in favor of Colt McCoy? That's a one-way trip to bust town. 2010 - Cam Newton: After a rough first half to his 2nd NFL season, Cam has carried the Panthers franchise on his back and has been pretty impressive ever since. Imagine what Carolina could do once they get more decent players around him? 2009 - M

Greatest Crossover of All Time is Actually Happening

Image
This past December there was a lot of inside information that was revealed because of the Sony hack. Obviously the biggest thing to come out of it was that at one point there was talk of Spider-man returning to Marvel and being a part of the MCU. And it's very possible that this information getting leaked to the public may have played a big part in the deal actually finalizing and going through. But the whole Spider-man aspect of everything was such a big deal that it ended up burying other stories that were also revealed, but nobody had much time to talk about them because everyone was to busy focused on Spider-Man. It turns out that one of the more wild ideas that cropped up in the leak is actually being given serious consideration. Sony is apparently developing a crossover of the 21 Jump Street Franchise and the Men In Black franchise. Now before you roll your eyes at that remember that Jump Street creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the kings at taking terrible idea

Jon Jones' Historic Title Run Ends Without a Fight

Image
My UFC fandom is admittedly very much in it's infancy and therefore it should be noted that I speak on this subject with absolutely no authority. My interest in UFC was peaked following the first Silva/Weidman because it was hard to have not heard about what happened in that fight. In the following months, my friend would try to convince me to watch more and often sending me youtube clips of Jon Jones fights since he was my friend's favorite. So when the rematch for Silva/Weidman was set, I was 100% behind finally watching my first UFC event. What can I say? I'm a pro wrestling fan, I can't pass up a good story. I began with an already established respect for Jones due to my friend's fandom, hearing about his historic reign over the light heavyweight division and being a huge wrestling fan, I instantly identified him as the "real-life" version of WWE's own historic champion, CM Punk. A guy that's not shy about his ability and actually backs it

The Impending Disaster that Could Be the DC Movie Universe

Image
I'm going to try very hard not to bash on DC or Warner Bros here. It will be tricky but at the end of the day, I'm hoping that Batman v Superman is fantastic. I hope that Wonder Woman comes out and is a great movie about the character in her own right. I hope that this is all leading up to a Justice League movie in a few years that will blow everyone's socks off and easily compete with Marvel as a truly great super hero team up film. This is what I genuinely and truly want to have happen, as I'm sure you do as well. But it's getting harder and harder to thing that might ever come true. Ok, we know that right now DC is trying to play catch up to Marvel. Marvel is releasing their second Avenger Movie this week, the tenth movie total in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while DC still won't have two characters meet on screen till March of next year. Now DC has been trying to catch up on this Multi-film universe trend for a while now. Even before the first Avengers m

New Dragon Ball Series on it's Way

Image
For the first time in 18 years, there will be a new TV series set in the Dragon Ball universe. This new chapter of the Dragon Ball Saga begins with a new movie (That will be known as Resurrection F when it's released in the US.) which will bring the return of Frieza. But what may be most exciting of all is that it's been revealed that this new series (called Dragonball Super ) will take place after the Majin Buu storyline, which means, for those keeping score at home, that the new series will wipe the slate of Dragon Ball GT, a series that had no imput from the original creators and was, generally disliked by the fans of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Right now we don't have much of a timeline on when things might start coming out, but we do know that Resurrection F was released in Japan this past April, and it also had a premiere of the english dub in Los Angles. The english dub is expected to be released in North American theaters some time in the Summer of 201

Lets Review Books: The City of Bones

A few days ago we covered the announcement that the Mortal Instruments book series, which had previously been turned into an unsuccessful book series, was being adapted into a hopefully more successful TV series. I had been aware of the book series before, but hadn't really taken the time to delve into it, but with the upcoming show, this seemed like as good a time as any to see what this series might have to offer. The story of The Mortal Instruments is that of Clary Fray, a normal sixteen year old girl (which we all know is a lie) who's life is flip turned upside down when she learns that she is in fact not a normal sixteen year old girl as previously thought (knew it) but instead was born in to a line of beings known as shadowhunters, a race of people where were descended from angels. The shadowhunters live a life protecting the world from the demons that plague the world. You can guess a lot of what's going to happen in this book before you even get around to pickin

Sesame Street is the place to be for Parody

Image
Parodies can vary greatly when it comes to quality. Sometimes you can find a gem like Airplane. More often than not you find Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, The Starving Games, etc. But in this day and age where quality parodies seems to be few and far between, do you know where you can actually find a parody or two that are not only hilarious, but actually educational for kids as well? That's right, Sesame Street has stepped up to the plate recently, and cranked out several great parodies of recent pop culture. Check out just a small selection below of what Sesame Street has to offer. Game of Thrones: House of Cards Les Mis Avengers: Age of Ultron  But believe me,this is but the beginning, of what Sesame Street has to offer, They've done Star Wars , Sons of Anarchy , Mad Men , Twilight , Lord of the Rings , Harry Potter , the list goes on and on.

First Image of the new DC universe Joker

Image
Over the past several days, there have been several pictures released that have teased what appeared to be pictures of Jared Leto slowly transforming into The Joker, who he will be playing in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Well the final image is here, the first official image of the new Joker, so lets take a look. Well, thats... different. You know, different might not be a bad thing. Whoever was going to have to play The Joker next was going to have to deal with the inevitable comparisons that would be made to Heath Ledger's Joker. To many people, that's the definitive Joker performance now, and a very hard act to follow. So the thought process here might be to simply go as different as possible and make it an apples to oranges situation. You can't really compare the quality of these two Jokers because they are so different to begin with. And maybe this is just a publicity photo that doesn't really reflect the character p

Animated Original Ending to Red State

Image
If you've been around the site for a while, you probably know that I have some very conflicted feelings toward Kevin Smith's Red State. It's an interesting movie for  the first eighty minutes or so. It's filled with complex and compelling characters. We have Michael Parks in a standout performance, that is so good at one point he launches into a ten minute or so sermon that is captivating the entire time. It's really an interesting turn for Kevin Smith who before this had more or less done silly comedies, but it was a movie that really made it look like Smith had something to say as a filmmaker. But the problem with Red State (or at least my problem with Red State) comes at the ending, where the whole movie kind of falls apart. I don't want to outright say that the ending ruined the entire movie, because I still think there's a lot in the movie to make it worthwhile, but the ending is definitely a trip at the finish line and fails to wrap up the movie sati

The Fast and the Furious Franchise: Ranked

Image
In close to 15 years, there have been a total of seven movies that make up the Fast and the Furious Franchise, with Furious Seven coming out earlier this year. So It's time to take a good look at the franchise in the order from worst to best. 7. The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift If there is an installment of this franchise to stick out like a sore thumb it's this one. It's only one to not star either Paul Walker or Vin Diesel. (yes Diesel made a quick cameo but you can't make any argument that his amount of screen time would be called starring) The lack of these two stars shouldn't automatically make the movie bad (after all, the real stars of the franchise are the cars) but the new characters aren't as fun or as interesting as Walker and Diesel, nor is their dynamic and chemistry on par. The previous movies had already hinted at raising the stakes, only for this movie to bring those stakes back down. And focusing the whole movie on the concept of dri

Full House Reunion/Spinoff coming to Netflix

Image
Dust off your 90's nostalgia, the Tanner family is coming back to a Netflix account that your friend is letting you borrow because, you know, times are tough. Full House alum John Stamos confirmed the growing rumor on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Stamos said the deal had just been finalized and will be a 13-episode run that starts with a 1 hour reunion episode. The show will focus on the family of D.J. Tanner (Candice Cameron Bure) and long-time best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber). The majority of the original cast is expected to make an appearance on the spinoff show titled "Fuller House." No word for sure if the Olsen Twins will be included.

Leaked Post Avenger Credits Clip

Image
Ok, it only seems fair to say right up front that this is fake. It's been stated that this is a fake. I personally believe that it's a fake (If it were real, there would be quite a lot of audience noise the moment that a certain something was revealed, even if it was a room full of snobby movie critics. That ending is just something you react to.) Normally I wouldn't report on fake, already debunked news, but this one is actually put together really well, and pretty enjoyable. If you don't want to watch on the very very very, off chance that this is the ending to Avengers (or maybe even to Ant-Man later this summer) I can't say I blame you though.

Other Trailers that were Also Released

Image
It wasn't just Star Wars. I  mean yes, It pretty obvious that in the world of movie trailers, the second teaser for The Force Awakes was clearly the biggest thing to happen in the past week, but in all the excitement of watching, and re-watching, and re-watching the Star Wars trailer, we haven't mentioned any of the other trailers that were released this past week. So as a quick roundup, here are three other trailers for big blockbuster movies that have recently come out. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice  Jurassic World Fantastic Four All in all, I have to say it's been a pretty good week.

An overly detailed look at the new Star Wars Trailer

Image
Once you've gotten into the double digits of viewing numbers on the new Star Wars trailer, it's time to really start breaking the whole thing down, and obsessing about every single frame. So lets get right to it why don't we? The trailer opens up on a long pan shot of a desert planet that we are told is not Tatooine. And we see a crashed X-wing ship as well as a (much larger) crashed Star Destroyer. It should be noted that this is not the updated X-wing we've been seeing in previous promotional material before now (and later in this same trailer) but rather this is a Battle of Endor era X-wing. The same can be said for the Star Destroyer assuming that the giant battleship we see later in this trailer is an updated Star Destroyer. Next we get a good shot of what is unquestionably the remains of Darth Vader's helmet. As we get this image the voice over of Luke says "The Force is strong in my family. My father has it." Not had by the way, but h

NEW Star Wars: Episode VII Teaser Trailer

Image
As presented during the opening panel at Star Wars Celebration that included appearances from the new movie-used R2D2, new droid BB8, new cast members John Boyega,Oscar Isaac, Daisey Ridley and Star Wars vets Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew, director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy finally gave us our second look at the new film. This is the first look at the film since November.Director J.J Abrams did say during the panel that more details will be shared during the weekend event as well as in the coming months before the film's December release.

Wizard of Oz TV show Announced! (Or rather re-announced?)

Image
I've heard of shows that have been canceled, and then uncanceled due to either loud enough fan support or last minute deals going through. I've also heard of shows that got canceled before a single episode was aired. (This happened to the show Hieroglyph , just this past year.) But I'm not sure if both of these things have ever happened to the same show before now. A while back, the land of Oz seemed to be everywhere. Disney had released a fairly successful prequel movie about the Wizard first arriving, Oz characters were showing up on Once Upon a Time , and there were no less than three (count 'em three) Wizard of Oz themed TV shows in development at the same time. One of those shows was Emerald City on NBC. Emerald City was described as a Game of Thrones style interpretation of the land of Oz (i.e. NBC would like some of that GoT success) that would cover events not only from the original Wizard of Oz book, but its thirteen sequels as well. Last January, NBC order

The New Flash Gordon Movie takes a step foward!

Image
It's going to be hard to get audiences in this day and age to take a character like Flash Gordon seriously. Most people, when thinking about the character of Flash are going to picture the character as he is presented in the serials and comics from the 1930s, a very basic, flat character, with really not much in the way of any character devlopment or pathos. Pretty much what a modern day audience member would describe when talking about pulp sci-fi from the 30s. Some might think about his last outing on the big screen in 1980 in a movie that I'm going to describe as delightfully weird, but others might have understandably less kind words about the film. (Though we can all agree that the theme song was AWESOME!) So it's understandable why people might have a hard time taking a "serious" interpretation of this property...well...seriously. Most recently in 2009, there was a serious Flash Gordon TV show on the syfy channel, that lasted a grand total of one season

Celebration Live Stream!

Image
For the past two Star Wars Celebration events (One in 2010 and one in 2012) I have happily bought a ticket, made the trip and had the time of my life hanging out at the biggest Star Wars event in the country. I've seen George Lucas in person, gotten to touch a life size AT-AT, and more fantastic experiences than I can even count. So it's been a bit of a downer to come to terms with the fact that I wasn't going to be able to make it to Celebration VII this year. Yes some of my friends who had accompanied me in years past were still going this year, so I would get to hear all about it, But for the bulk of this weekend, I was going to have to cope with the fact that thousands of Star Wars fans were going to be hanging out together and I wasn't going to be with them. Then this was announced: Starting April 16th, at 10:00 AM, Starwars.com would be hosting a live stream of Star Wars Celebration events including, but not limited to, the J.J. Abrams panel about Episode V

Shadowhunters moves from Movie Series to TV Series

Image
If you don't know about The Mortal Instruments book series, here's a quick rundown for you. The story is about a young girl named Clary who learns that she is a member of the Shadowhunters, a race of people, descended from angels to battle demons. The Mortal Instruments is a book series comprised of six books (really two trilogies) following Clary and her friends. The potentially cool thing about this series though is that it is one of potentially five different series that all together will make up The Shadowhunter Chronicles . The author, Cassandra Claire, has written a series titled The Infernal Devices that is a prequel series to The Mortal Instruments and features the ancestors of some of the characters in the Mortal Instruments series. If all goes as planned, there will be a total of five different series making up the Shadowhunter Chronicles with The Infernal Devices being the earliest, A proposed trilogy titled The Last Hours being a sequel to that, Then the alread

Marvel's Spider-Man: What We Know So Far

Image
Several weeks ago, it was announced that after much deliberation and lots of negotiation, a deal has finally been reached that will allow the character of Spider-man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then rumors have been running wild with what the third incarnation of Spider-man in less than ten years was going to be like. Who would be playing him? How soon would he appear? How will Spider-Man factor into the already packed schedule that Marvel has lined up between now and 2020? While we don't know a lot of those answers yet, here's a quick look at the things we do have answers for sure about. No Andrew Garfield : It was stated pretty clearly early on, that this was not going to be the same Spider-Man from the past two Amazing Spider-Man films and thus Andrew Garfield would not be playing him again. While Andrew Garfield was one of the brightest spots in an otherwise problematic film series, it makes sense that Marvel would want no connection between their

Fox Does The Time Warp Again

Image
It was announced last week that Fox was planning to bring The Rocky Horror Picture Show to the small screen for a two hour remake set to premiere some time in the undetermined future. And people are FREAKING OUT!! Look Rocky Horror is a rather decisive piece of work. People tend to either love it or hate it and there is really no middle ground. But those who love it tend to try and convince those who don't that the reason they don't is likely because they've never been to the live midnight showings of the movie, where you can really enjoy the movie in full, complete with the audience call and response to the movie that has developed over the years.  This is what makes the idea of a remake of the movie that people watch alone and at home so bizarre on the surface. Why would one of the most famous bits of audience interaction be something that people would do alone? Is anybody going to throw rice at their own TV if they have to be the ones to vacuum it up later? However
