Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Bringing Boxing Back or Last of a Dying Sport?

Honestly, think back over the last 5 years and really think if there was a time in boxing where people, in general, were the slightest bit interested in a card that didn't include Mayweather or Pacquiao. You could probably count those instances on one hand. And honestly, over the past 6 years we only got excited over fights involved either man because we thought for sure the next fight after would be against each other.

But in a society in which UFC reigns supreme in terms of popularity compared to the seemingly over-convoluted politics and money-grabbing culture of boxing. Besides, fans have figured it out: why watch a contact sport that only involves making contact with the other person with their fists when you can watch a sport between men and women that uses every part of their body to gain an advantage over the other?

The emergence of UFC has severely crippled the appeal of boxing and the sport desperately needed Mayweather vs Pacquiao and depending on how well it goes, it might need this fight a few times over. And this fight is definitely getting a "once in a lifetime" treatment. Seriously, even the wikipedia page for this fight is ridiculous. Here's what I mean:

Both fighters have exclusive broadcasting rights which means their fight will be presented by both HBO and Showtime, something that hasn't been done since 2002.
The Pay Per View will cost about $90 (a 40% increase over the previous record for highest PPV price).
The referee will earn $25,000 for officiate the fight.
The 3 judges will each earn $20,000
A belt was made specifically for this fight and it's estimated to value about $1 million
Mayweather will be using a $25,000 mouth guard that incorporates diamond dust, gold flakes and a $100 bill cut-out. Whereas Pacquiao is wearing a mouthpiece that will actually do him some good. Seriously, why do you want diamond dust in your mouth?
The official beer of the fight is Tecate, who bid $5.6 million to have their logo on the center of the ring.
Pacquiao will make an extra $2.5 million in advertisements on his trunks and entrance headband.
Only 500 tickets were available to the public (in a 16,800 person arena) and were priced at $1,500, $2,500, $3,500, $5,000, and $7,500 . Those 500 tickets were sold out within a minute.

There's so much ridiculousness surrounding this mega-fight but the question remains; does it really matter to anyone? Maybe I would've been excited to see this fight 6 years ago the first time they were unable to agree to have a match. Now? It feels more like it's finally happening so we can all stop wondering if it would ever happen. Sure, a lot of people are going to be watch and likely it'll be at some sort of bar venue so that you don't have to shell out 90 bucks. People will partake to be a part of a cultural event and the numbers will be astonishing but will it be enough to breathe new life into the sport? Or will this be the final hurrah before fading more and more? I can't answer that question with certainty but I don't like boxing's odds after this fight.
