The Creators of Recount Have a New Election to Talk About

Image
There is a movie out there called Recount. There's a good chance that you haven't seen it. I don't know a whole lot of people who have. It wasn't a theatrically released film but rather a TV movie that aired on HBO back in 2008. So it's understandable if you don't know what I'm talking about. Understandable, yes, but it's a real problem if you haven't seen it. Because it's one of the most impressive movies that you've never seen. The movie presents a behind the scenes look at the 2000 election and the days following it where none of us knew who our next president was going to be. Almost none of the movie focused on the candidates themselves but instead centered around the managers of their campaigns as they both worked to figure out a way to get their preferred candidate to the White House. It's a great subject for a movie (and a bit of political theater that many of us remember playing out in real time back in 2000) and is as compellin

The Hobbit: The Trailer

Image
Ten years ago I went to the movies to watch Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Not having read the books at that point, I had no real special interest in seeing the movie other than my Dad wanted to watch it and I just really liked going to the movies. What followed were three of the most impressive hours that I had ever spent in a Cinema. The opening part of a trilogy that would span over the next couple of years and would help to define what it meant to be a modern epic. So it is fitting somewhat that now a decade later, almost to the day, we get our first glimpse at The Hobbit, the triumphant return to Middle Earth for Peter Jackson and company to tell the story of Bilbo, Gandalf, and the discovery of the one ring. I won't do an overly detailed look at the trailer as I have with some of the other trailers in the past. There are those who are far more dedicated to the works of Tolkien than I, who have read the book again and again who will likely pick up on several th

The Dark Knight Rises: The Trailer

Image
Today Warner Bros. relesased the trailer for what is arguably the most anticipated movie of 2012. We'll talk about what goes on in the trailer in a moment but first, let the wonder of The Dark Knight Rises wash over you. Well that was wonderful wasn't it? First we get a good look at Bane in motion for the first time. Some of the biggest internet complaints about the trailer is how Bane's voice sounds in this movie. Sure it's a bit odd but its not impossible to understand. And this is the world where Batman has a super gravely voice remember? So I've no problems with the voice yet. What I do like about this Bane is that he seems to be a very intimidating, competent version of the character, not at all like the disaster we got back in 1997. This is a Bane that I can believe going toe to toe with Batman. In this show we can clearly see some pictures of Harvey Dent in the background though we've been told that he did in fact die at the end of the last movie. So perh

Golden Globe Nominations Announced (Television Edition)

But we can’t forget Television shows. Along with the films nominated for Golden Globes today we got a slew of TV that’s been nominated as well. Now these I’ve seen a lot more of. Mostly because TV is much more free than going out to the movies all the time, but a quick look at the nominees shows that you will need at least basic cable to watch most of these shows if not some of the premium channels (Not a single Broadcast show in the Drama nominees) We will get to more in depth reactions later today but for now here are your television nominees without personal commentary (Real Quick, I know that I just said no personal commentary, but it hurts my very soul that Community has not only not been nominated for a Comedy Series award but in fact is missing from the entire list) • DRAMA SERIES American Horror Story Boardwalk Empire Boss Game of Thrones Homeland • DRAMA – ACTOR Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad Kelsey Grammer, Boss Jeremy Irons, The Borgias Damian L

Golden Globe Nominations Announced

The Golden Globe Nominations have been released wich means that Award Season is about to kick off into high gear. It also reminds me how woefully behind I am on watching movies this year. I have seen a mere fraction of the movies listed below Partially that’s not my fault because many of these movies have yet to be released or are only playing in selected cities right now. But the fact of the matter still stands. I’m going to have to take a lot of trips to the theater between now and Globe time. Anyways, here are your nominations. BEST PICTURE, DRAMA 'The Descendants' 'The Ides of March' 'The Help' 'Moneyball' 'Hugo' 'War Horse' BEST PICTURE, COMEDY 'The Artist' '50/50' 'Bridesmaids' 'My Week With Marilyn' 'Midnight in Paris' BEST ACTOR, DRAMA George Clooney in 'The Descendants' Brad Pitt in 'Moneyball' Leonardo DiCaprio in 'J.Edgar' Ryan Gosling in 'The Ides of March'

Rock of Ages has a Trailer

Image
So I love movie versions of Broadway Musicals. As someone who doesn't have the money to constantly take many trips to New York to watch those musicals over and over and over again, the next best thing is geting a movie version. So whenever I get wind of a Musical being adapted into a movie, I'm always supportive, even if some creative liberties are going to be taken. Sometimes A movie adaptation gets the bulk of the Broadway cast to be in the movie (Rent and The Producers) while sometimes A whole new slew of famous people are cast to help the movie's chances with some star power (Hairspray and Mamma Mia!) It doesn't take much of the trailer to guess where on that scale Rock of Ages seems to be in. I would love a chance to see the original cast do the show, even just a filmed copy of the actual show one night (we don't get nearly enough of those) but I can understand why those big names need to be there. Also, note that the last movie to use We Built This City"

G.I. Joe 2 gets a trailer as well

Image
Man it sure has been a big day for trailers. Not only did we have the MIB 3 trailer earlier in the day, now we've got a GI Joe trailer out as well. Check it out below. So I knew the Rock was going to be a big part of the movie, after all he's arguably the biggest name attached to the thing, but it seems that hes going to be unquestionably the main character of the thing this time around. I think saw Duke for a second in there but not near what I saw of Roadblock. Also did this plot remind anyone else of the set up for the new Mission Impossible movie. Which is really the premise for the A-Team show from way back when. But it's the same plot with Snake Eyes, so I'm more or less content with that. What I would have really liked though is some sort of indication that we might get some more of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this movie but I guess somebody was too busy being in the most anticipated Batman movie of all time. So there's that. Oh and for those who don't know

Black List 2011

Every year a list of un-produced screenplays is released. This list includes screenplays that have been read and receive a great amount of positive feedback but for one reason or another have yet to go into production. Each year these screenplays, most of them completely unknown to those of us on the outside of Hollywood are for the first time heard about by the general public. Many screenplays to have been featured on past years lists have even gone on to be rather successful movies including Juno and last year's The Social Network. This year's list includes sevearl movies including a biopic about Alan Turing topping the list and the screenplay Django Unchained (which I think we all know will more than likely get made) But the most intriguing entry on the list is one coming in at number three called Chewie. All we have right now is a one sentence sinopsis which states that the movie is "A satirical behind the scenes look at the making of Star Wars through the eyes of Pete

MIB 3 Teaser Trailer

Image
The original Men In Black movie is one of my personal favorites. It may not be a piece of cinematic art but it blends a perfect amount of action, sci-fi, comedy, entertainment, and just straight up fun all into one movie. In fact since 1997 it's been one of the pillars I've judged other potential summer blockbusters by (or rather since 1998 when I first watched it on VHS) The second Men In Black movie was so much bad as it was forgettable. Yes, I know that there is a second movie but all I can really tell you is that the bad guy was some kind of plant alien and that Michael Jackson was in it for half a second. But a forgettable movie turns into a big disappointment when it's following something like Men In Black. So now, ten years later were getting another chance to have a sequel that captures the charm of the original. And our first look at that movie (due out next year) is below. So who's favorite part from all that was Josh Brolin looking like he walked out of a Tom

New Battleship Trailer

Image
With the winter movie season getting into full swing, we're starting to get some new trailers for the big deal movies of next summer. And this week's overblown action movie trailer is a new one for Battleship, the very expensive version of the board game you played growing up as a child. Again, nothing in the trailer reminds me of of a bunch of red and white pegs and plastic boats, so every comment about the first trailer is still relevant. This time around we are reminded that this comes from the same company that brought us the Transformers (Hasbro) and I have to say, the aliens (or robots, or whatever the bad guys in the movie are) do seem to look a lot like the suped up versions of the Trasformers that Michael Bay cooked up. As always, lots of explosions and gunplay is prevalant, but we are still mysteriously short on any details of what the plot of the movie might be. Anyway, check it out for yourself below.

Star Wars Cast talks about their New Release...The Empire Strikes Back

So I'm a big fan of old interviews. The idea of people talking about something that we consider classic, back when it was a brand new thing is always interesting. The interest is even greater when it comes to Star Wars because so much of the franchise's history is all about "what comes next." The idea that there would be more movies, and more stories to tell in the universe is something that's always been with Star Wars so in every interview we get questions about the next chapters of the saga. In this interview, released some time in 1980 (probably very close to the film's release since they won't talk about the connection between Darth Vader and Luke) we get to hear about the intended nine films that Star Wars was going to be. It's interesting to listen to the ideas that they had about the prequel movies back in 1980. Some were way off from what actually ended up happening (Mark Hamill talks about an 8-year-old version of Luke in Episode III that we

The Movies You Need to See Before You Die

I'm a big fan of the book "1001 Movies You Need To See Before You Die." (Link to the Amazon page of the current edition here )In fact, I'm a big fan of almost any list of movies to compare and contrast to you own opinions (after all isn't that why we pour over Top Ten lists at the end of every year) but The bonus of "1001 Movies" is the sheer giant number of movies that the book talks about. That high of a number allows for not only "classic films of artistic merit, but also obscure cult hits, and popular movies as well. Movies like "Clueless," "Independence Day," and "The Hangover have all made the list. But each year as new movies come out, and are added to the list, they must replace other movies, So each new edition of the book misses out on some great films. For those who are looking for a list of all the movies ever put on the list, not limited by the number on the cover of the book, one has been made here , totaling

A Pair of Trailers for The Lorax

Image
A while back, we got a trailer for the upcoming movie, The Lorax based on the Dr. Seuss book. It looked a little something like this: You know, rather cute, not a whole lot like The Lorax book that I really remember. After all most of the Dr. Seuss movies (Horton, and the live action Grinch and Cat in the Hat before it) have added rather lengthy subplots in order to take the short children's book and stretch it out into a full movie. It seems that this one is going to give some extra story to the kid (unnamed in the book) who comes to hear the Once-ler's tale. Then we get this second trailer. Quite a bit darker at the beginning isn't it? But then again, The Lorax is something of a grim book. So the second trailer not only gets closer to the orignial feel of the book, it also focuses more on the story that the book has. So which trailer is better? Not for me to decide. Thats why I posted them both. Other Note: It looks like the Ed Helms character (who looks just like the Zac

The Best Holiday Ever

Image
Can we talk for a few minutes about how much I love Halloween? I love everything about it, from the candy and trick-r-treating, to costumes and parties, to horror movies and awesome music. I make it a point to celebrate Halloween hard! A quick history lesson, Halloween originated as part of a harvest festival based around the Autumnal Equinox. Some parts of what we now call Halloween came from Celtic ritual, like carving scary faces into pumpkins which were set out to scare evil spirits away from your home. Some things came from other festivals like Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, such as dressing in costumes in order to hide from/blend in with the spirits as they walked about on the earth. Today's Halloween is enjoyed very much for fun and holds little to no spiritual value for most people. I mean, it isn't even considered a "National" holiday. Even if it has been commercialized in true American fashion, I still love it! This year is no exception. I start out my cel

A Good Day To Die...Hard

Image
A slew of information just came out about the next (which would be the 5th) Die Hard movie. Among the tidbits of information we got A shooting start date (January 2012) a release date (Valentine's Day 2013) and a plot synopsis that included the idea that much of the film would be set in Russia and the threat that McClane faces would be a worldwide one. But a big bit of info that was released included the title of the upcoming movie... A Good Day To Die Hard. Sure it's a bit silly sounding. But I'm gonna stand up for it. After all, How great of a title was Live Free or Die Hard? In fact we can go all the way back to Die Hard 2 which was subtitled Die Harder. Sure these titles might sound a bit strange. But the Die Hard series is not a dramatic or realistic portrayal of the events of the movies. These movies are high action fun. And they themsleves are a bit silly at times. So, A Good Day To Die Hard. Works for me. I just wish I could see the list of other "Die" or

I Love Being a Nerd

So I was just wandering around Wal-Mart, as I have a tendency to do, when I see an older woman (in her 60'sish) having a confused staring contest with a display near the toy section on which were several toy lighsabers and blasters. I was naturally gazing longingly at the Boba Fett EE-3 carbine rifle when she breaks her eyes from the stand and looks at me, a Darth Vader saber in one hand and an Obi Wan in the other. "Do you know anything about this?" she asked me with exasperation in her voice. I couldn't help but break into a wide grin."Yes, I do. I know quite a bit about them, actually," I replied. "I could tell you how a lightsaber is built and how it functions, if you like," I thought to myself. She explained that her family lived in another state and they were therefor having an early Christmas. She had a printed out email from presumably her son or daughter describing what their kids wanted for Early Christmas. She was looking specifically fo

The Idiocy Strikes Back

Image
I know it's been a while since I posted anything out here, but I feel this needs posting. It is season premier season in the television world and that means two things to me: the return of How I Met Your Mother and the continuation of the Clone Wars. While the former was amazing and everything I could have hoped for, the latter was a bit disappointing. This is so for several reasons and I shall spell them out for you now. This new season is kicked off showing the civil war going on on the planet Mon Calamari. Or Dac. Or whatever name they want to make canon right now. This is a side war going on during the Clone War between the Mon Calamari (fish-people like Admiral Ackbar) and the Quarren (squid-people) as they battled for dominance of their homeworld. It was depicted in the Genndy Tartakovsky animated Clone Wars series in grand fashion. Jedi Master Kit Fisto swoops in with a battalion of clones and helps repel the Quarren assault. It was really well done and played well with th

Disney Magic: Episode 1

Well, it looks like we have just started branching out into podcasting. And to kick everything off. Here is the first episode of our new "Disney Magic" podcast where Megan and Joel express an enjoyment of their favorite Disney things. So pull up a chair and listen to nearly an hour of podcasting goodness. Disney Magic #1 can be downloaded here.

Why I am keeping my Netflix account

Image
Quite a lot has been said about the fact that Netflix prices have gone up. And for the most part, what has been said has been negative. And that’s understandable. For the most popular type of account (1 DVD at a time and unlimited streaming) the monthly price of Netflix has nearly doubled. So it is understandable why some people are deciding that this is the time to drop Netflix from their monthly expenses. Me, I decided to hang on to my account, at least for the time being. For one thing having a large account (3 DVDs at a time and unlimited streaming) meant that my account only rose by 20% instead of the staggering blow of 50%. For another, the amount of time I spend watching Netflix still means the inflated price is a good deal (I probably spend less than a dollar per movie I watch) and it’s still the cheapest way to watch newer DVDs. Then the Starz news hit. Starting in February, the contract between Starz and Netflix would expire meaning that all of Starz content would no longer b

The Green Album: Listen to it Now

Image
A few months ago we posted about an upcoming album where popular artists were going to cover songs from the Muppet franchise. Well now, thanks to the fantastic (and I mean fantastic) people over at NPR, the whole album is temporarally avalible to be listened to online, for free. So kick back and click play on the player embedded below, to hear what may be the best album to be released this year. Track List for the Green Album. "The Muppet Show Theme" (OK Go) "The Rainbow Connection" (Weezer and Hayley Williams) "Mahna Mahna" (The Fray) "Movin' Right Along" (Aklaline Trio) "Our World" (My Morning Jacket) "Halfway Down the Stairs" (Amy Lee) "Mr. Bassman" (Sondre Lerche) "Wishing Song" (The Airborne Toxic Event) "Night Life" (Brandon Saller and Billy Martin) "Bein' Green" (Andrew Bird) "I Hope That Somethin' Better Comes Along" (Matt Nathanso

Listen to that DuckTales theme song again. What in it couldn't also apply to the Doctor?

Battleship: The Movie

Image
Yea thats happening. Don't really know what to expect from the movie, but you can watch the trailer which has been released online to get a glimpse of the movie. Looks interesting, nothing really like the Battleship game I remember playing as a kid, but interesting none the less. (Were their always aliens in Battleship and I just never played by the right rules?) Anyway you can also check out the official site for the movie here , where you can, among other things play the original Battleship.

Star Wars deleted scenes (another teaser)

Image
Half of Comic-con is left but I'm not sure that any teasers revealed there are going to be as exciting to me as this. I was at Celebration last year when the Star Wars Blu Ray's were announced and we got to see the deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. Like then, watching this teaser was an almost surreal experience. I've watched the Star Wars movies so many times, that I'm familiar with every single action from every single character, just as I'm sure many of you are. Every step, every line, every raised eyebrow. Now there is footage of these characters, characters I know so well, doing things and being in situations I've never seen before. Take a look below. Its a rare movie series, where the deleted scenes merit a trailer of their own but if any series deserves the distinction, I think it's safe to say that Star Wars is that series.

Wonder Woman footage from failed pilot

It's not the entire pilot yet, but about six minutes of footage has hit the webs which is more than we've ever seen before. Now, really for the first time we can start to get a glance at what the feel of the show might have been. It seems that some of the effects (especially in the fight scene) were not finished but with the show never coming to air, I don't really expect anyone to go back and fix that. Also it seems for all the investment in discussions about the costume, more than one costume were seen in the videos so far. See for yourself. Dexter: Season 6 trailer

Image
Had enough movie trailers thrown your way? Well I hope not because it's Comic-con time and I expect a slew of information to come out of San Diego over the next couple of days. In the meantime, Showtime has debuted a new trailer for Dexter (probably their best show currently airing) Because season 5 seemed to be all about the recovery and fall out of the end of season 4 this really feels like the first time we may be getting to see classic Dexter in a while. I don't know if the religious angle that the trailer seems to have is just for the promotion or actually hints at the content of the next season, but either way its an interesting angle. See for yourself.

Amazing Spider-man Gets a trailer

Image
Its been a slew of trailer updates here, as of late, but with summer movies, comes summer trailers, with the new Spider-man movie being the latest. Amazing Spider-man was a movie I was prepared to hate. I felt that I already had my Spider-man movies, and this new "reboot" was just a low down cash grab to keep the rights to the series. But then Marc Webb was announced as the director, and with each and every casting decision sounding like a good one, I couldn't help but get a little excited about the movie. But now we have a trailer to see our first real glimpse of the movie's footage. Check out thoughts below the trailer. Now, I don't know about your Spider-man, but the Spider-man that I had growing up was funny. Constantly cracking jokes at the expense of his villains, Spidey was always a much lighter read than some of the other comic book heroes. So why does the theme of this movie feel so dark? The trailer starts out with a reminder that Peter&#

The Dark Knight Rises has a teaser

Image
I feel as though you should have seen this one by now, since It played in front of Harry Potter and please tell me you have seen Harry Potter by now. But just in case, or if you want to watch it again, (and believe me, I did) the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is now online. embedded below. Check back tomorrow for an overly detailed analysis of the trailer, but for now, just sit back and enjoy the magic of Nolan's final Batman story.

Knights of Badassdom photos

Image
Knights of Badassdom looks like a movie that you just want to like. Staring genre favorite Summer Glau, Danny Pudi from Community, and Peter Dinklage, my new favorite actor thanks to his amazing work on Game of Thrones this past season, Knights of Badassdom, is about a group of LARPers (Live Action Role Players) who's game starts to get a little to real when one of the group casts a magic spell from a book that they bought off of eBay. See what I mean? Its the kind of movie that looks like a whole bunch of Comic-con smashed into one movie. Well Entertainment Weekly has posted the following pictures, allowing up to get our first look at the movie.

A Potterhead's Feelings on Watching The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Image
*Not a lot of Deathly Hallows Part 2 spoilers in here, but a few in here, so proceed with caution!* As a lover of Harry Potter for almost half of my life, it's hard to put into words how I felt watching the last movie. It was exciting, to see all the fans and meet new people and talk about costuming, favorite characters, cherished memories from book releases and theme park visits. But it was also heartbreaking. I first picked up a Harry Potter book when I was 11 years old, and it changed my life. It sounds ridiculous, but I'm sure a lot of you can relate to that feeling. I grew up with these books, at just about the right ages for every one of them, and when the last book came out I was so upset. But, I knew I would get to see the fans again, and get to experience the stories again through the movies, so it didn't seem to final. The fandom won't just disappear now that it's all wrapped up, and the books and movies will be there to enjoy again, but it's difficult

Another Exciting Trailer...

John Carter. As in John Carter of Mars. How exciting is it to finally see this come to the big screen? The film, directed by Pixar's Andrew Stanton will be his first live action movie to date. Pirates Teaser Trailer Hits!

Image
We here at Irrelevant but Awesome, tend to have a rather strong fondness for a book series called The Pirates! about a delightful pirate crew, who follow their captain (appropriately named Pirate Captain) on his ridiculous schemes, and all tend to have a great love for ham. The series, while successful enough to have four books in it, is not necessarily a smashing "Harry Potter" style hit, so its quite exciting to see that a movie is going to get made from the material. Add to that fact, that it's the same people that made Wallace and Gromit, and Chicken Run and this is shaping up to be a fantastic looking movie. The trailer has just hit and everything about it looks promising, from the animation to the humor. See for yourself. Now, go grab yourself a copy of the books so that you too can get excited for this movie.

Please don't be CM Punk's last night on Raw

We've been keeping up with it for the past couple of weeks so we really should see this out through the end. In what may end up being his last night ever on Monday Night Raw, Punk delivered not one but two great promos to both open and close the show. You can find the both of them below so that you too can understand why WWE needs to keep this man employed. 1st video: CM Punk opening the show with a promo and the aid of a megaphone. Videos 2 and 3: Punk and Vince McMahon have a live contract negotiation in the ring, to end the show.

New Evil Dead Movie happening?

Image
So there have been quite a few rumors over the years about another Evil Dead movie happening at some point. Even if you don't count the several mentions of Evil Dead remakes and Evil Dead 4 false starts that have happened, there are still rumors of a movie adaptation of the fantastic Evil Dead Musical that popped up a while back, and an outline for the aborted Freddy Vs. Jason sequel that would have had Ash take on the two horror icons. (Admittedly that one did end up becoming a comic book series ) So this may just be the latest on a whole pile of false rumors, but who cant help getting excited regardless? Bloody Disgusting has reported that Sam Rami has confirmed that things are moving forward with the Evil Dead remake, mentioned in the article as a "quasi-remake" of the original 1981 film. The article also said that a director had been selected for the film. One Federico Alvarez, who's short film Panic Attack! (embedded below) went around the net a few years ago.

Short Film of the Week: Kiwi!

Image
It's been on YouTube since 2006 but just in case you hadn't seen it yet, I really wanted to post this video. It's a short video, less than three minutes, but it it still more captivating, inspiriting, thought provoking, heartbreaking, and funnier than almost anything else on the site, even now five years later. Because the video there's not much to say about it other than it's about a Kiwi which is a flightless bird from New Zealand. What the video embedded below. Its more than worth the time to watch.

TV show to watch: Fast and Loose

Image
Last week we looked at "Drew Carey's Improv-a-ganza" as a TV show you need to see. We talked about how it was almost as if there were new episodes of "Who's Line is it Anyway" for the fans of that show. But what if you preferred the original version of the show and like your "Who's Line" comedy with a bit of a british accent? Well don't you worry because I've got you covered with a new show as well. Like "Who's Line is it Anyway" the british show " Fast and Loose " is a totally improvised show. It even starts out with the host standing in the audience before running down to the stage the way Drew Carey did in every episode of "Who's Line." It has several new games new games that haven't ever been seen in earlier improv shows, but the same feel of the classic "Who's Line is it Anyway" is present, and the new faces are all great in the show. (Though its not all new faces, since Wayne

Darth Plagueis get his Story

Image
The tale of Darth Plagueis as told to us by Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith was probably the most "tell me more" moment of the movie if not the entire prequel trilogy. How old was the story? Was Palpatine the student in the story? We got the distinct impression that some things may have been twisted or left out of the story in order for it to have the maximum effect on Anakin. So what were those things. What is the whole story, without the Sidious edit that we got? Well not we may have a chance to find out. This December (December 27th to be exact) Del Ray Books will release a novel titled Darth Plagueis, where we may get some answers, and at least get a good story out of it.

It's Time to Play the Music...

Image
Because there's a new Muppet's movie coming out this year ( you may have heard about it. ) Disney is putting out some other Muppet related merchandise for Muppet fans to get their hands on. Probably the most exciting of these things is something called The Green Album set to be released August 23rd. The Green Album, we've learned, is an album with some of the most famous Muppet song's covered by today's artists. Will it work? I'm not sure. The track listing actually seems rather enticing, taking a look at it. And Weezer doing Rainbow connection is enough to at least merit a sampleing of the album. Below is a complete list of the songs and artist that will be on the album. 01 OK Go: "Muppet Show Theme" 02 Weezer and Paramore's Hayley Williams: "Rainbow Connection" 03 The Fray: "Mahna Mahna" 04 Alkaline Trio: "Moving Right Along" 05 My Morning Jacket: "Our World" 06 Amy Lee: "Halfway Down the Stairs"

Cabin in the Woods: First production photo

Image
Well, file this one under "Things I never thought I'd see." Originally supposed to come out in February 2010, the movie was delayed for almost an entire year to allow for it to be converted into 3D. Then when MGM filed for bankruptcy, that release date was scrapped as well. I was just starting to accept that I was probably going to finally see the movie years in the future having found a direct-to-DVD release in the bottom of a discount bin when we heard that LionsGate would be picking up the movie. So here we are with a promise of a theatrical release later this year (though no exact date has been announced) and we finally get our first look at the movie with this picture. Of course Chris Hemsworth is front and center since he's starred in Thor since this movie was filmed, but take a look at the pic yourself from Bloody Disgusting.

Lets learn something: Shoe Tying

I've been trying it for a few days now, and you know what? I actually think this might be a better way to tie your shoe. It may take you a few tries to really get the hang of it, but once you do, it can shave precious seconds off of the shoe tying part of your day. And as a bonus, this new way of tying your shoe will help keep both of the loops the same size, something that used to drive me crazy as a child.

CM Punk on Raw Update

For those keeping up with the CM Punk storyline right now, Punk was suspended after his amazing promo (monologue) at the end of the show last week. This week continued the drama with Cena demanding an explanation from the Chairman of WWE, Vince McMahon. A lot of the minor stories were also touched on throughout the night, but for those who really just care about the Punk story, here is the final segment of last night's show where McMahon came out to address the audience.

Short film of the week

It's been floating around the web for a while now, so there's a chance that you've already seen this one, but on the off chance that you haven't, this one is well worth posting. Plot Device is a film about an amateur filmmaker who spots a mysterious object for sale on Amazon and the consequences of his impulse buy. Plot Device from Red Giant on Vimeo . Full disclosure, the film is actually a big ad by software creator Red Giant to show of the capabilities of their latest release. None the less, the film is still enjoyable and a worthwhile watch. For those who are interesting in the actual product, the film was made to show off, a "making of" video has also been uploaded. Your New Favorite TV show

Many of you, who were born at the right time, grew up with this: If you did, then you loved watching each and every week. To this day, its one of the few shows that if I come across it while channel flipping, I will watch to the end. Every single time. Well for those fans, (which again, should be all of you) there is another show that you may enjoy called, Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza. The show features not only Drew Cary, but also appearances from Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, and even an occasional appearance by Wayne Brady. A host of other improv stars also show up as the crew entertains a live audience just like they did in the old days. Some of the games are brand new, but they also do a few games from the old "Who's Line is it Anyway?" group of games. Because the show can almost be described as simply "new Who's Line episodes," its somewhat alarming that the show hasn't gotten more coverage. If you haven't been watching it then there are a sle

Netflix Givith

For those who don't know by now, Netflix has finally put Star Trek on instant view. And not just the original series. In fact, every episode of every series is avalible except for DS9. (or the animated series if you wanted to count that) Still, thats 21 seasons of Star Trek for you to watch. So what are you waiting for? Get on that. Relive the wonder of watching the original series. Catch up on those episodes of TNG that they never seem to show in reruns (trust me, Encounter at Farpoint would not apply here) I, forever a champion of the underdog, recommend that you take advantage of having access to every episode, and take some time rewatching Enterprise. You may just be surprised to learn how good of a show it actually is. As a bonus, for those of you who have already watched every moment of the Star Trek universe, Netflix has also added every episode of the Spiderman sereis from the 90s and the classic X-men animated sereis.

In Case you Didn't Know...

CM Punk is the greatest thing happening in wrestling right now. This past Monday, Punk ended the show with a speech that has caused everyone to sit up and take notice. Nothing I say here could in any way improve what Punk said, so presented here, without further comment, is the video from the end of Monday night's episode of Raw. At least until Punk's mic was cut off. Do yourself a favor and watch it.

A Brief Rant About Disney Nerd-dom

Image
I'd definitely consider myself a Disney nerd. Not your standard "I like Disney movies for nostalgic purposes," sort of thing, but instead "I'd give my left foot to work at Disney." I'd say it was probably my earliest fandom, for obvious reasons, but only recently did I get more into the culture of Disney, probably within the past two years or so. Disney fandom is really unlike any other I've participated in. Because their movies are essentially made for children, and because people are first exposed to them at a very young age, it creates a very different atmosphere than say a fandom intended for adolescents or adults, or even a fandom that starts at childhood but is marketed mostly for adults (I'd say Star Wars was under this umbrella, for example.) This makes the nostalgia factor really large. People have definite favorite movies and characters that they're very attached to. They like certain theme parks. They have large collections of merc

Nintendo announces the next Wii. The Wii U

Image
Earlier today, at E3, Nintendo announced among other things, their newest home console. Called the Wii U, Nintendo promised in their presentation that the new console would be both "wider and deeper" than any console in history. What basically this would translate to is that Nintendo is trying to keep the casual gamer that the Wii was so successful with while at the same time trying to recapture the more hardcore gamer audience that has drifted toward Xbox and Playstation in recent years. It was even said in the presentation that "Wii" should be thought of as 'We" to indicate the group experience of playing while the "U" should be thought of as 'You" and the personal experience of the console. Anyway the biggest reveal of the day was the new controller that the console would have. You can also see the controller in action by watching the trailer shown at E3 My first reaction is about how big that thing is. Based on seeing people holding i

Star Wars Saga Lightsaber battles: Ranked

Image
As we come to the end of May (Star Wars month for me, since all of the movies came out at some point in may, not counting the animated) I have watched the entire saga twice this year. While waiting for information about Celebration VI and Star Wars on Blu Ray, It has helped pass the time. To end the month I’ve decided to take a look at, and rank each lightsaber fight in the six movies. As with any list about Star Wars, this one is ever changing and ever evolving. The order of this list could change by tomorrow, but as of print time this is my order of the best lightsaber fights. Note that to be considered, two opposing lightsabers have to clash. Fights such as Obi-wan in the bar, or Anakin against the Tuskin Raiders don’t count. 13: Luke Vs. Darth Vader (Dagobah) Episode V This one has to start the list as it really hardly counts as a fight. Three clashed of the blade and that’s it. Its brevity and slow motion make it the worst fight of the saga, but really it was never there to be a
